I back Richy when he's playing, I'm just not gaslighting myself into believe he's good enough for the job.

We should not be scared of critique, positive or negative. What you're suggesting reads like a yes man scenario. How is anyone supposed to improve if you only tell them the positive and what they want to hear?

My biggest ask of Richi right now is staying fit. When I think back to most of his tenure as a Spurs player there has always been massive question marks about his ability to be fit for selection. Right now we need the Richi we've seen this season. The one that seems a little more robust and able to put his body in the red zone and it not break.
 
I support every player we have when they are playing for us, it's not unloyal to believe they aren't good enough to take us to the level where we want to be.
Richarlson has always been one of my favourite players as he gives his heart and soul for the team, its distressing to see him struggle as he appears to care like us.
I can't see him being the player we thought we were buying, he has never seemed consistent in his performances, this is probably down to constant charges of team tactics, injury and his inability to lead the line.
His future here doesn't appear to be rosy and I feel we should sell him if we can, he's not alone in the squad there are others who are either not good enough or consistent in performance but they should all get our support when playing.

So by that same token, a narrative of constructive criticism could help the player improve. You can't pick one as the only option, if a negative reaction is possible so much a positive be.

Yeah fair enough. Though you could ask why some can still thrive or at least perform decently well consistently in such volatile settings...

Personally, i think in front if a decently strong midfield that plays through balls constantly and crosses into he box relatively early Richarlison could thrive, we saw that in the purple patch he had under Ange between November 2023 and February 2024.

I just wish he wouldn't go through such extremes: one minute being so down that he barely makes himself available for a psss and then the next he is so ecstatic with a goal he runs the length of the pitch taking his shirt off etc.
He reminds me a little of Mourinho in that things can't just 'be' ...tehre has to be some extreme one way or another.

Oh well, he is what he is. We have to show support now regardless, especially as it's likely we won't see Muaniu until just before xmas and won't see Solanke until probably February...

Imagine he scores a winning headed goal in our next game?? He'd become a WHL GHod!

Criticism from the right places, absolutely. Critique from people you know and trust, with full context of the situation you're in can be a huge part in helping you grow, perform better etc. Critique from people you don't know, or don't have that context typically feels like nothing more than an attack.

In the modern world where everyone has an opinion and a platform to share it, combined with that fact that most of the time it's the negative views that get amplified, I don't see it as helpful. I don't see that helping Richarlison perform better. And ultimately, I don't see that helping Spurs succeed, which is the only thing I want.

Of course, but football rarely defaults to such simplistic things. You could say that about anything in the game, thats why these people are humans, not robots.

I can't hand on heart, despite loving this club, say that in the last 5 years its been one of the best platforms for players to thrive...........some have, but thats more rare than the norm.
 
I think we have to remember that we all exist on a football forum. In reality, we only exist to each other so anything we write positively or negatively about Richi mostly stays here. I say "mostly" because I'm certain those despicable members of the British press might do a bit of trawling on the forums to find a sentiment to sensationalise. That's when they're not making brick up themselves.

Where we need to be most careful is the actual interaction we have with the players on match day. I hope every supporter in the stadium can get behind Frank and the team in that environment but I would state that only when those players are giving 100%. Your job as supporters is to get players from 95% to 110%, not get them to 95%. That should be a given. What we need to remember is they are human and games come thick and fast. Sometimes the fans can help them get that last mile when they're playing on tired bodies and minds. That's the 95% t0 100% and the bit that makes all the difference to a footballer.

This will be important with Richi if he is carrying the torch whilst others are injured. It might also be important to remember that when he's playing 9 then he might be slightly out of his best position. I still prefer him in his EL final position on the left.

Yeh I agree, in person and on social media its clearly having an impact as its become a thing. We can all moan on about the cost and the value as an excuse, but some of the projecting onto players isn't helpful and never has been. you touch yourself you make your choice, for 90 mins just get behind the players, its not a hard or really tough concept to grasp or implement. People act like Richy inclusion on the team sheet, as frustrating as it is, is somehow going to go away or improve by projecting negativity for 90 mins, from that respect football fans confuse me

In some ways, it's why I've enjoyed these last 2-3 seasons in a perverse sort of way. Before that, Kane visibly quit on everyone. Yes, he got the stats that matter but he wasn't putting in a shift for anyone (club and country). He wouldn't show for the ball and he wouldn't do number 9 things. Before that, Sonny quit on Jose. Sonny just didn't appreciate the role he was being asked to. Ndombele got a rough ride but Jose was also asking him to run like a greyhound for 90 in a gap between midfield and attack. Aurier would be pushed high and wide by Jose and just amble back over the half way line as the ball hit our net. Ditto with Hojbjerg under Conte. That guy's attitude simply sucked at times. So many examples of life pre-Ange where player power would leave fans questioning player's attitudes.

I can only really remember writing once in these last 2-3 seasons about one player doing that. It wasn't a big thing but Spence was caught casually jogging back when he needed to be defending properly. I don't think it is an actual thing with him though. I think he is mostly giving that 100% every game. It's one of the reasons we should love Richi. He crosses that white line and gives his all. I think this current assembled squad have that in abundance.
