Richarlison

Benched for last night’s loss against Uruguay in favour of Jesus. No shame losing to them but goes to show Brazil do not have vintage side at the moment and haven’t for many years. So when people highlight that certain players play for Brazil it doesn’t really hold much weight at the moment. Given we’re at home on Monday but I’d be tempted to start Richarlison and give him 60-70 mins and see how he gets on. If he’s having a mare then haul him off earlier but somehow we need to get his confidence up.
Richarlson > Jesus. Is what I take from that tbh

Can I ask why that's your take? Is it because Brazil lost to Uruguay? Do you think Richalison alone would have a loss into a win? He's not even particularly good for them. [emoji1787]

He came on just before half time. Neymar was stretchered off for 37th time in his career. Man he was so good back in the early days!

I don’t think you can make any assumption off something like that personally, not even that Brazil or any of their players aren’t very good because they lost that game.

Maybe my post was too subtle?!

That’s fair. My views are pretty aligned with Bishop re Brazil. Some people still have this notion of Brazil being a force in international football when the reality is they are going through a dry spell by their standards. Haven’t got past the quarters final of the WC since 2002 except for when they hosted it in 2014. They’re not a bad side by any means but I think the fear factor has gone and the rest of the world have caught up with them. 15-20 years you could say x player gets in the Brazil team and that meant something but it doesn’t mean as much these days.

Yeah sorry I missed it. I'm just so used to people blanketly saying "he's Brazil's number 9" as a counter to any criticism of his performances. [emoji28]

So, he played 59 mins. in a 1-1 draw with mighty Venezuela and 51 mins. against Uruguay. Hardly overused or overexerted. Wish all our internationals were used in such a manner. Should be fit and firing for Fulham.

Very much supporting this guy. Really good first half, faded in second but so did the team quality as a whole. At least he's not shying away and keeps on shooting (take note Kulu) and I'm sure eventually his luck will change.

Also think he's a popular guy in dressing room from the clips I see and an underrated joker. Keep your head up Richi.....IMG_3883.jpeg

Tough one. I think the play broke down more than once when he got the ball. That said, his overall play was good I thought. Works very hard. His finishing is a big concern though. A lot of his efforts aren’t even on target. I don’t think he’s done enough to nail down that position. I wouldn’t be against Johnson starting the next game and Richarlison given more minutes in home games or against physical teams where his physical and aerial presence are factors. That LWF position is up for grabs. I’m not overly hopeful about him playing centrally when Son is away for the Asian games.

He wasn't bad, pretty decent in fact, but we need better. It's just the truth no matter how we dress it up. He's just not of the required quality for a starter.

If we can get a real danger man in for the LWF spot or maybe Johnson becomes that, Richy would be a decent utility forward option. We need depth in the squad and he would provide that.

A decent backup is ultimately what I view Richarlison as too.

Lets start with I agree

- A truly dangerous winger in this system would make our front line far more dangerous and in that model he is a decent backup.
- In his defense, he works his nuts off (and that is critical to the system's function, press from front), he also has more assists this season in Pl than Odegaard at the Scum (context/perspective)

He does work hard. Son and Maddison also work hard and press the opposition, a lot of our goals this season have come from winning the back back high up the pitch so I don’t think Richarlison is alone when it comes to pressing from the front. I’m sure Johnson can/will do that if he gets a run in the side. I really like Kulu but I’d say goals is the one thing he also needs to work on. Not sure we can have two forwards who contribute less than 10 league goals in a season in the team at the same time.

Agree, Kulu is a workhorse and progresses but he's lost that goal threat, needs to find it back

We need everyone to press from the front, Johnson isn't that player yet (obviously young), Solomon does (and almost over pivots to his defensive duties sometimes)

Short answer and aligned with you, one of the front line other than Son has to score more.

I love Kulu, I'm a massive fan of his but you're right. Ultimately we are gonna need more goal return from him also. Whether that's scoring himself or directly creating for others. Our attack is relatively speaking the weakest part of the side and the area that you could most obviously improve.

As a striker?
I don't mind him in the squad as a back up player at LWF, but Solomon is ahead of him and Johnson should offer more if we decide he play him there. It's the only position still up for grabs. (In CM, Bentancur will need to prove he displace someone. Although Dec and Jan will need rotation anyway)

Kulu has become Lamela-like

Without watching the game back and going by what I felt at the game I thought he was poor - seemed to lose possession cheaply the majority of the time the ball came his way
