Putin & Russia

Soooo, a new militarial alliance with Norway has been announced.
Been a long time since such things were needed.
Winds of change seem to have started blowing a gale this week.

I don't think anything like that would be in place at the moment BUT as I said in my previous post, this is a discovery phase of character traits 'hey, we're not so different'. The problem being the main traits point towards the dictator/tyrant pathway. Neither representation of your country or, even in truth, your party.

The fear with Trump is he's opened up the playing field. Anything goes, nothing is off limits. Diplomacy gone, democratic process gone.

The problem with these people is they want YOU so they can seize power...but they want power to seize everything for themselves...they won't need YOU to retain power....and they won't do anything for YOU when they've got what they want.

I suspect Norway will be looking to join the EU sooner rather than later too. 30 years since the last public vote where 52,2 % voted no.

Oh definitely. I know people living up north, close to the border, and it's a tense situation to say the least.

The challenge up until now has been to make the Norwegian central government really understand what it's been like to live that close to Russia the past three years. It's finally beginning to sink in now.

I'd join today, but I think there are still too many that hate the EU and think we're better off just complying with everything they decide as we do today.

The world's allowing it, no one is doing anything about a high profile robbery IMO. Lies agreed with are not fact but the worlda sitting back allowing it

I think we need to cut ties with America if Trump doesn’t retract his recent words. It will only be for 4 years or until Trump dies and doesn’t want to be president anymore. I’d really like to see Starmer condemn Trump publicly and for other European leaders to back him up.

To think there could be 4 years of this, its hard to imagine the potential damage and multiple crisis's that could entail.

Of course, we might equally get to the point where we realize he's just a trumper full of guff (which he is) BUT this is the world of politics not TV or business.

This is the problem with high profile people from business becoming politicians, it's a different game. Yes, one might think they'd understand the economy, the money side of politics BUT they also think everything is transactional. Yes, with money people can 'suffer' , scammed, overcharged, brick deal etc BUT in politics and especially geopolitics the 'transactions' result is conflict, death, destruction, disease, displacement. Nothing suitable for a TV gameshow.

The worry is that beyond the supposed political thoughts of these right wing leaders, they appear to be aligning on their character traits. Narcissistic, power hungry, wealth hungry, untouchable dictators....that detest any decent human beings that thinks fairness is a thing and all human lives matter.

The USA cosying up with Russia...who'd have thought it?

He has set up a very strong frame with which to enact/fulfil a transactional government that can pander to the needs of his sponsors. All the humanitarian disasters you state (accurate of course) are not his concern, and if they become his concern, he will find a way to convince his people that he is the saviour who 'saved' the moment. I think your final full paragraph is the one which resonates the most; those dominos are lined up. Sadly, his guff and bluster is a lot more now. Honestly? I won't allow myself to think beyond small time frames right now. There is simply no ability to make plans which make sense for anyone anywhere...

The get out is, if the driving force really is down to just a handful of operators (dictators)...it don't take much for them to be eliminated (black ops or otherwise) if the general behind the scenes feeling is this is madness.

Not so sure. Our proximity to Russia and the strategic importance of the Barents sea/Spitzbergen makes us vulnerable, and will probably spur Norwegian politicians to seek closer cooperation with the rest of Europe. Especially considering how Trump has sowed doubt on the future strength of Nato.

We used to, and still do, rely on US support through Nato, but with more insecurity about that relationship, Norway will look elsewhere - like with the defense cooperation with the UK.

Looking at the list of countries I think we are looking at a preemptive resource grab, or the start of that strategy at least. Plenty of wars have been fought over resources before of course but frequently the driver of those wars was greed. This is a little different IMO. It believe these moves are to do with a looming scarcity, and hoarding of resources before things collapse.
Europe has one chance to kick the chair out from under Russia in Ukraine before this gathers momentum.
