Pushing Up The Daisies - 2022

Was this the guy that was reported dead last week and then it was announced he wasn’t dead and was bad journalism?

Yes. Twice he was untruthfully reported dead. Shouldn't really disrespect a dead person and his family, but I certainly won't miss him! A leech and a vulture of the highest degree. Unfortunately there are too many of the same kind left in his profession.

So that has taken ITK to the next level then?
Sorry I shouldn’t joke.

I don't agree with the general hate on agents, their job is to look after the players, Raiola in particular was loved by his clients, that's how they should be judged imo.

i don't hate agents but blame the system for allowing them to thrive... the issue is that a lot of money goes to greasing the wheels instead of supporting footballers and their families. always thought that Fifa should start a jobs board and players be contracted or hired by the club without a contract like ordinary folks. guess fifa gets kickbacks from agents to allow them to get this influential. thats why i support the ESL - competition begets more efficiency, unless the ESL is in cahoots with FIFA...

Regardless, I guess he had a value to players:

'Charismatic and completely unapologetic'
BBC Sport's Simon Stone

I was once chatting about Mino Raiola with an executive at a club who was having a difficult time with the charismatic agent. "He is a nightmare," the executive reflected. "But if I ever needed someone to negotiate a pay rise for me, I would want him to do it."

That was the thing with Raiola. Never afraid of confrontation, completely unapologetic about the vast amounts of money he earned.

To Raiola, the ends justified the means. If that meant playing hardball or delivering a few home truths, as he did to Manchester United on a number of occasions, so be it.

His list of clients was legendary. Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Donnarumma, De Ligt, Haaland - and that is just a handful. Raiola, sadly, won't be there in the final stages but when, as everyone expects, Haaland joins Emirates Marketing Project in the deal of this summer, the deal will have Raiola's fingerprints all over it.

I last encountered him at Barnet of all places, at an agents' conference he attended with fellow big hitters Jorge Mendes and Jonathan Barnett. As they held court outside the stadium, it was impossible not to think about the size of the deals these men had been involved in.

It's business, someone is going to get screwed, without agents it would be the players rather than the clubs.

So you are happy that all our ticket prices are say 30% higher so the likes of him can get their snouts in the trough

its the demand that drives the ticket price, the game is a trough, there will always be snouts, at least the agents tend to look after the actual talent

Maybe it's not the agents if they get paid regular amounts of money. With a 20 mil commission it's eventually the fans that are screwed don't you think?

I look forward to the day fifa have a virtual marketplace like ebay for players, AI recommendations based on club needs... Where things like skills or achievements are priced more transparently.

Maybe we do need Skynet for world peace.

assuming agents at the lower levels of the game are paid less, ticket prices are still (actually, even more) ridiculous

my old man is an Exeter City fan, it’s £20 to get into St James’, and the quality compared to Spurs is diabolical, even with how brick we are at the minute, it should be a tenth of the price at most, not nearer half

also, as a fan, I don’t think I can get screwed, it’s my choice with how to spend my disposable income, I’m not forced into it,
I choose not to waste money on FA/League cup tickets for example

I’m not sure the market place could
be much different, as not all customers have the same need in their squads, it’s not simply about players metrics
