Preseason 2014

But instead we ended up against mls reserves and Celtic reserves because every team we faced was already into their season. We learned nothing about our players ability against these kids. Yet people are judging players already on their session performance as if you could gauge anything against the kids we played.

I'm with you on this one. I'd prefer to judge players (and the manager) on their performance against Premier level opposition. Given the players are mostly the same as last year, it will be down to the difference Poch is able to make, which probably won't be fully apparent for a while. It will be great to get off to a good start, but I won't be surprised if the likes of Lamela, Soldado, Townsend, Capoue, the entire defensive four, continue to turn in some frustrating performances. I'm hoping we manage to buy a few players to improve in key areas before the window closes.

I agree with JimmyB, Ade isn't ready for West Ham. He will be an asset over the course of the season, but Soldaddy will surely start v the 'ammers/irons/c**ts.

My team (assumes Walker won't be ready and not including potential signings):

-----------------------lloris
naughton---kaboul---vertonghen---davies
------------capoue-------bentaleb
----lamela--------eriksen---------holtby
----------------------soldado

subs: vorm, dier, rose, sandro, lennon, townsend, adebayor.

I see van Gaal has Man Utd passing the ball.

Where has Young been playing for Manchester United? I thought that he would be their right wingback but there, he pops up in he left wing position?

Right wing-back???

Unless I'm mistaken, Young has pretty much always played left wing / left sided forward for Utd and previous clubs.

The only reason that I thought he'd be there is that LVG apparently stated that Young could play wingback. I guess that he was suggesting as cover for Shaw, if on the left.

Who is their right wingback?

Looks like some fella called Valencia.

But as he is naturally right footed it would make sense for him to play as a right wing back as opposed to left

Utd's team will probably be

de Gea
Jones Smalling Evans
Rafael Carrick Herrera Shaw
Mata
Rooney Van Persie

A lot of their fans would rather Welbeck started in place of one of the front two though.

Ahead of our fixture against Schalke, it's interesting to see Saudi Sportswashing Machine beating Schalke comfortably in the German side's stadium.

Schalke will likely have other key players back for our fixture against them, but, on the evidence of today's fixture, we should win our last friendly comfortably.

Schalke couldnt even score against West Ham.

I think we will beat them 3-0

West Spam are still to win in pre season after 6 games. Spurs have won 4 out of 4. We know where this is heading dont we :-k

That almost looked like Wengerball to me :(

In the WC LVG had Kuyt playing as the right sided wing back with Blind on the left. Stands to reason that he may employ a similar "lopsided" system at UTD, whereby one wing back is slightly more defensive than the other.
