I wonder if John Healey will again resign over the chancellors refusal to raise defence spending...

Pick your poison, personally I preferred Starmer's realism and honesty.
People can't eat acres of rusting tanks, that are obsolete before they are half built. That's what happens to defence spending

Defence spending should be repurposed towards achieving 100% green domestic energy. That would provide actual security, take us out of the influence of the oil despots

Scrapping the standing charges for gas is huge for me. Get £100 aswell. Minimum wage rise raises all ships.

Not raising the tax threshold sucks it out though.
£100 is barely a tank of petrol. Or two baskets of food. What will everyone do with their free 450 miles?

The gas thing was the only positive in there, as its another small rachet towards fossil phase out

In general a minimum wage rise is good I feel, only concern I have - does it actually put smaller business at risk and mean higher likelihood of unemployment in some areas?

I’m thinking of say, small family owned cafes or other businesses, if you now need to raise the minimum wage for your staff then it hits your overheads or perhaps means you can’t take on that extra waiter/waitress due to the now higher cost per hour… or am I overthinking it?

Naturally higher wages for all would be grand but I can’t help but feel someone still had to pay them and I’m not sure everyone is quite set up for this?

It's 2 months of my energy bill. Even more with no standing charges.

amen to the green energy piece. If we were to mandate that all companies with warehousing or offices had to have solar panels, promoted a scheme to get them fitted at a reasonable price and then enabled the companies to benefit from the financial saving associated with solar then we would very rapidly increase our ability to withstand international fossil fuel pressure.

Add that to the fact we are a windy island and we should be miles from this current dependency overseas.

It feels weird agreeing with you GB.

450 miles!! Are there any 450 mile downhill stretches you know of?

A first excellent saving for Londoners would be cutting the cost of printing thousands of banners, posters, stickers etc all saying 'Brought To You By The Mayor of London' every time someone opens a fudging door. They are brought to you by the Taxpayers, not by anyone else.

This is pretty grim, he keeps saying no but I reckon he calls an election with membership of the EU or single market plus the welfare reforms from the reviews on the ballot before this kicks in. Most departments have spending cuts starting next year as well.

Merging NI into income tax and replacing council + inheritence tax with a land value tax would be far more effective than any of that. Also kicking the private sector out of health, education and amenities, to reduce costs
