Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Devil will be in the detail there, I read its not expanding the drilling or issuing new licences, its speeding up existing, which for the benefit of policy, its no difference to what came before if true. Not sure if that was accurate but was def in the report I read a week ago
I'd read there was already new licences in the pipeline, so as long as there aren't more to come on top, you imagine it was factored into their eco energy plan.

It could be argued that it might trick Trump into thinking we're aligning with him....as he rarely looks into the detail.

(Not that we should care)

I was impressed with Andy Burnham's speech. The fact that he delivered it without any notes or an autocue made it even more impressive. Time will tell whether he's ultimately a success, but it was certainly a strong performance.

I'm less enthusiastic about Ed Miliband being given such a prominent role in government, given his stance on energy policy.

I did have a slight chuckle at the appointment of Angela Rayner as Housing Secretary.

2. He wants to abolish the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. WTF. If his head is not in that game, he has a massive blind spot. (A worry first floated a couple of weeks back on the rest is politics)

It's been emasculated since universities were moved from there into education. Maybe his idea is a new creation that brings back universities, like the old DIUS (Department for innovation, universities and skills)?

Wow, that's a twist to the plot - the suspect turns out to be Frank Lampard! Frankie the Tory with a blue on blue hit

What a coward that guy is, not there is really such a thing as a brave murderer.

To drive all that way in your late twenties to bash an old lady in her 70’s over the head with a hammer repeatedly and end her life. As if it makes him some sort of moral warrior over his views of her politics.

Still lots online about how it’s no big loss, and I really hate this idea that someone’s politics means things like this are somehow more ok than if one stranger does it to another.

Like her politics or not, it’s not the way to deal with things. Hopefully that’s him away for life now and the world is a safer place for it.

Don't think his motives are clear. He looks like a deranged loner of anything. Whether he has far right or far left links is less important than understanding what radicalised him. And whether he was neglected by the system at all before he did this crime.

I am just sad.

I get the sense it's a severe learning disabilities with insufficient care resourcing one, but we'll see

When the murderer is right wing it’s because they are right wing and been influenced by right wing influencers and politicians who must be stopped.

When the murderer is left wing it’s not really important what their political affiliations were they just had mental health problems and have been let down by an underfunded system.

You cannot make this brick up 🤣🤣

Why would anyone with sanity murder a Prisons Minster from 30 years ago? It would be like Tommy Robinson ordering his minions to do a hit on Joyce Quin?

A radicalised antifa would surely target someone like Murdock or Dacre (not that the puppetmasters ever set foot in the country)?

Until its clear I dont think it helps yo speculate either way. I dont get the rush to put a label on it beyond what we know and that it was a horrific murder

I don't spend enough time in those corners of the internet to know if there are as many or as amplified voices of hate on the left as Kirk, Miller, Jones, Yaxley-Lennon, Lowe, Tice, Farage (just the tip of the iceberg).

Is the left as nasty and hateful as some of those on the right (must be some, surely??) or is it another false equivalence trying to 'level' the field?

I do not think it's true so you did just make it up.
