Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

How are they individually? What is denied them or in what situation are they subject to racism.

I live a fairly privileged middle class existence, although I have worked extensively across Africa and other communities where I was the only white person for miles, but I can't see what constitutes actual racism against individuals in the white community. I can't think of names they are called that equate to the N word or the P word, I can't recall seeing pubs or shops with the equivalent signs of 'no irish, no p***, no dogs' on the door. I can't recall even when living within the Blackbird Leys riots in Oxford in 1991 any overt issue with white people, just the police.

What constitutes racism against white people on an individual basis based purely on their skin colour rather than their ethnicity (Irish, gypsy, traveller, Romanian, Pole etc) or religion?

Honky in north america, gringo or branquelo in south america, gweilo (white ghost) in China. There are theoretically pejorative terms around in non-white majority areas. But I agree don't think white people particularly suffer racism, almost ever. At worst you get teased about the factor sun cream you need or the lack of rhythm in your dancing.

We were talking about in the UK. Are there names with as much, or any, history and baggage as those using against nonwhites?

I know there are pejorative terms elsewhere, but many of them (e.g. gringo) aren't about being white as much as they are political, about colonial legacy or anti-american feeling. I was called gringo in Costa Rica in the '90s until they heard me speak and worked out I wasn't a yank. US travellers often had maple leaf flags on their backpacks to pretend not to be gringos'.

I heard some kids of south asian origin call a white guy "an absolute Colin" one time. Maybe it was regional? It felt like it deserved to catch on!

Food. In particular the concept of flavor. It's fish fingers as a treat with ketchup.

The bodycam footage from the Henry Nowak arrest is shocking and makes for extremely disturbing watching.
I appreciate the attending police were given the info provided by the murderer's family and arrived at the scene with that particular scenario in mind based on what was said on the 999 call. But to then ignore/disbelieve Henry when he tried to tell them, on 4 occassions, that he had been stabbed, and on more occasions that he couldn't breathe, is beyond awful. And so utterly, utterly heartbreaking for his family.
Also how absolutely despicable are the murderer and his family who did not tell the police that Henry had been stabbed (given that as per their 'story' (lie) it was in self-defence). I would have liked to have seen more of them on trial for that.

There will be people who would say "welcome to our world, this is what the police do" and there will be - and already are - people wanting to make political capital out of this and who will distort the facts (e.g. Reform saying the murderer got a lighter sentence because he was allowed to carry the knife, which is the opposite of what happened). It would be good if they could heed the words of Henry's father :
“We want to use Henry’s heartbreaking story to make change for the better. We do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension. We want his story to help make our streets safer for everyone.“

And btw - how dignified was Henry Nowak's father giving his speech after the sentencing.

Horror case. Police standards are terrible.

The whole Sikh community are copping it now because of one bad person, the family acted wrong, but its now being made out like no family ever covered for a child (wrongly) before ever. The whole double standards of it is incredible

Also, no chance of the fathers wishes that he doesn't want his sons death to be used in politics.........enter uncle Farage

Yeah. I'm genuinely concerned for people who wear the turban now.

And let's see how little these people care for the victim and his family. They don't btw. Farage and Lowe really don't. It's just an opportunity.

I know its been debated on here ALOT but in all honesty is there anything that Brexit has delivered on or improved. Certainly hasn't helped on immigration, the cost of doing business abroad is mental, trade costs are through the roof..........all in all its been one big cluster

Let’s not blame the Police for everything.

This murder is 100% on the murderer as per usual.
Absolutely, and Henry Nowak's father was very clear about that in his comments.

There are questions for the police to answer as to how they reacted to a motionless man on the ground telling them he couldn't breathe and had been stabbed, but they did not murder him.

Nailed it

Never forget the fact the wider Sikh community are absolutely lovely, peaceful, generous and community driven...............
Wow. I hadn't heard what Farage said, although I was just listening to Zia Yusef on the radio news. which was exactly what you'd expect from him.
There's barely been sight nor sound of Farage for the past month as he lies low to avoid questions about his donors, but at the first opportunity he pops up to stoke the flames.
