Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

If "the main stream parties" were not so pathetic, useless, selfserving, two faced, back stabbing, corrupt slimy scumbags, then this wouldn't have been a thing.

Politics has all but collapsed in the UK, becasue the political elite have given a single f**k about the people of the UK.

They haven't addressed the housing scam, social housing, rents for 40 years.
They haven't addressed the scam that is cost of electricity and heating.

The list goes on and on...

I hope he does do it. I might hate Farrage, but that cesspit of a Parliament needs cleansing. And it needs to be for the people, by the people. Not just their to line the pockets of the elite.
Because people don't care enough about the issues you listed or they would have said they were important in focus groups and on the door step.

The are a few issues that raise concern among the general population enough to swing elections. It might displease the ultra liberals on here what some of those issues are.

If either of the two mainstream parties had done anything they say/said they were going to do then it would not matter how much money Musk gave Farage.

These are NOT the men to fulfil your wishes. In fact, they simply serve a) themselves and b) a whole other elite pocket.
It's quite the insight, isn't it.

And perhaps SkipRat is a microcosm of whats going on out there. Prepared to accept 'that' (of all things) because of what? They're not happy.

'For the people, by the people' .Jeez.

Oh I knpw, immogration is a anothher massive pne.

As I pointed out earlier in the thread.

What is happening in sth Korea is mad. Military inside the assembly according to some reports. Are we are looking at an attempted coup ?
Looks like an attempt to cling on to power by using geopolitical situation as an excuse (was reading he's been struggling to get his agenda through their parliament)

All very fair points.
I totally agree on the reality of what those few issues are versus what people wish they were, bang on.
I think an equally big battle is with misinformation too, as a couple of those issues which 'are' derive from skewed information IMO. Regardless, they need to be addressed honestly and not dismissively.

Actually and rarely in the politics thread I totally agree with you.

Was talking today to a mate about how poor the local newspaper Brighton argus is. When I first moved out of London in the early 90s they used to do proper investigations. Now it's a running commentary on Katie Price.

Labour get 12 months before I start making more serious complaints, they had opposition as well to prepare.

One issue close to my heart I want to know why at Southwick southern water are still dumping sewage into the sea, you can see it and literally smell it on hot days.

I feel we agree on a lot more than might initially seem to be mate.

Indeed, the demise of decent media is sad. Your Argus example is both funny and horrendous all at once.

I sympathise tenfold with your questions about Southwick southern water. My step-Dad lives on the river not far from Newbury; he has some complaints about similar (literally) brick. It's just awful...

When you're male, stale and pale, you know it's bad when everyone's favourite "white suburban midlife crisis dad that's made a few bob but is otherwise falling apart" car brand has decided to abandon you...

On the water discharges, we've been over it in this thread. A new government isn't going to slow down or stop the sewerage discharges. Neither will nationalising water companies. Neither will reversing Brexit or any of the other gonads that's associated with this issue. They're dumping a tonne of brick into the sea as if they didn't, it would back up through the over-capacity sewer system and flood people's homes and businesses. It's either in the sea or your living room.

If they stop increasing the population size by several million every decade and stop building new houses everywhere, they might be able to catch up on the civil engineering programmes needed to safely deal with the waste water demand.

While there's a shortage of trades compared to housing demand, there's still about x100 available brickies, sparkles and chippies for every one waste water engineer. And therefore the idea that you can get anywhere near government housing targets and continue building houses at the rate we are doing and not see the sewerage problem get 10 times worse in the next few years, is pie in the sky. There isn't even currently a credible plan to deal with the problem. It's all "let's blame brexit and the greedy private water companies" or some other untrue gonads.

It has been discussed. I was unaware we arrived at any conclusion? I believe it is still a discussion being had.
Your last sentence made me laugh.

Doubtless this is all some sort of 'gonads' too, right? At BEST I'll concede the dialectic in this conversation: population size increase is unhelpful to current waste water capabilities AND the private companies responsible have for many years neglected to properly invest in upgrading infrastructure as well as flout the rules.

It IS possible for more than one truth in this issue...as it is with most to be fair.

Are you obliquely referring to Jaguar, or has this flown even higher over my head? :) If the Jaguar, it's just weird. Their new font is brick! Now THERE'S a privileged complaint LOL!

I was referring to Jaguar. I'm not actually bothered about the whole "wokeness", but Jaguar's core demographic has always been the sort of alpha male self-made egotistical white bloke - so the sort of person that will hate it. Abandoning your core market in the hope of arresting sliding sales (there's a global economic slow down largely driven by inflation and you're a luxury car brand ) ....is an interesting choice.

Nothing in that article conflicts with what I'm saying. Loads of water companies are breaking the law, yes. They're also not treating the required amount of sewerage, yes. They're manipulating system flows to divertt sewage away from treatment works, yes. The environmental regulator knows all this. The government know all this. Are they taking action against these unscrupulous fat cats? No.

Why? Because they know they have no choice.

And it isn't the water company's role to invest in the sort of strategic, infrastructure upgrades necessary to resolve the issues. They are outsource providers running a public service for the government on a terms of reference - their required level of investment is "maintenance" and "efficiencies". They're there to keep the thing ticking over based on the existing system.

We didn't expect Avanti West Coast to build HS2 did we?

These fundamental rethinks and modernisation of national infrastructure are the prese5ve of central government and require central government investment and oversight.

This has been a failure of central g9vernment over decades.
