Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

How would you end Hamas without civilian casualties?

Also, what is an acceptable proportion of casualty to combatant deaths? Would you be surprised to hear that the ratio is better in Gaza than in most wars?

We don't know that. We only have the Israelis word for that...and lets be honest they have a history of lying, a lot. Until they let in the media we have no real idea what is going on in Gaza. We do know that Netanyahu has been indicted for war crimes the same as Putin has by the ICC.

Ok, so Israelis want security (the reason for pushing borders further away from central locations) and Palestinians want land (I'll take your word for that for the sake of discussion).

So how about a deal whereby we go back to the 1967 borders of Israel and remove all settlements since then? That gives Palestinians the land but it doesn't give Israelis security.

So how about we attach a clause to that land giveaway that reverts all of Palestine to Israel control the moment a rocket is fired into or towards Israel. You ok with that?

After all, Palestinians just want their land back and don't hate Jews just for being Jews. So they won't be attacking ever again if they get their land back right?
Close. But its easier just to do most of that, but then demilitarise both sides and have UN peacekeepers guard the border for a generation or so. Like Cyprus.

By a Muslim.

Which UN would that be?

The one that stood by and watched the atrocities in Rwanda? Or the one that watched Hezbollah dig tunnels right next to their outposts and stood idly by. Or maybe you mean the part of the UN that had staff involved in the October 7th r@pes and murders? Or the part that allowed Hamas to build a tunnel infrastructure underneath their buildings?

Interestingly, the French have come out with legal analysis that suggests the arrest warrant against the israelis is invalid because Israel isn't a member of the ICC and therefore Israelis can't be held to have breached international law as interpreted by the ICC (I.e. it has no jurisdiction over acts committed by Israel). Although this contrasts to the French position taken in respect of Putin (Russia is also not a member of the ICC)

There was no proof that any Hamas member was part of unrwa. It's more Israeli lies. They have a history of lying.

Unless of course you can prove this?

Israel accused 19 UNRWA members of staff of being involved in the Hamas attacks last October.

This initiated a UN investigation which found:
- In one case, they found no evidence supporting the staff members involvement.
- In nine cases they found that the evidence was insufficient to prove involvement.
- In the case of the remaining nine, the UN found that the evidence supported the accusations and the nine staff members were sacked.

Hardly consistent with it being "Israeli lies"

Having watched my mum suffer a truly terrible, drawn-out death full of suffering only 16 months ago I’m very pleased that it passed. I feel pretty emotional about it, truth be told.

Sorry to hear that.

I have a similar experience.

Although I’d be for this change without that, it’s an increasing freedom, giving people a choice.

This is a lie.
Sorry, my bad.

If you could enlighten all of us as to the religion of Karim Khan, we'd all be grateful, I'm sure.

One of the judges on the ICC was a holocaust survivor and a Jew.

Is he also an antisemite?

I think you may need to go and check your sauce on that one.

The pre trial chamber that issued the arrest warrants was made of three judges. Two were women (I'm fairly sure Judge Meron isn't a woman) and a Frenchman. I'm slightly less sure that Judge Meron isn't a Frenchman than I am that he isn't a woman, but fairly sure all the same.
