Having worked in the independent schools sector, I can see some of the sense in this.
Many of the EHCPs we dealt with were for the children of parents who were very wealthy and could easily afford independent school fees. Instead, they hired specialist education lawyers who - for the cost of less than one year’s fees - would construct a case which saw their child get five years of independent schooling, boarding fees, and additional specialist 1:1 teaching each week.
It’s a scandal that’s been ready to blow for years and I’m only surprised that it hasn’t been picked up by a journalist at some point.
All that being said, I’m sure these parents won’t be the ones hit when the cuts come, as they will hire the specialist educational lawyers to fight their corner, and on it goes…
