I think this is a decent plan, I am a strong believer that schooling should be more flexible and students should be better prepped for a future that suits their skills.

I'm not sure. Skills date and become obsolete very quickly, whereas learning the basic foundations of disciplines + critical thinking, will last a lifetime

Critical thinking is important for sure, and some skills will become obsolete quicker than others - coding, middle management, graphic designer etc. These jobs that will disappear in the not-too-distant future. I work in one and can see where it is going. However we are training kids for jobs that won't exist. Some skills will not date nor become obsolete. The skills I am thinking of are for the planet our we and children will inhabit in 5, 10, 50 years, and that is a different skill set entirely. These would be jobs AI hasn't already stolen from humans or skills that would be useful on a hostile planet.

I managed to coax one of my boys into becoming an electrician ( I think), and I couldn't be happier. The other boy is a physio, so that is a skill for the future also. I have a young daughter who I will start nudging into particular careers with my Jedi mind tricks soon enough.
