As opposed to a bias that is seemingly inherent in the system at the moment?
It’s always going to a difficult task to get the swing of the pendulum to land in the middle but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to rectify current biases.

Something like you are 1.5x more likely to receive a custodial sentence in the UK for being black......dependant on crimes that moves up and down.

I can't remember the posts on here demanding a single tier system when that was the case.............maybe there was and I just missed them.........then again

This is an interesting point.
My initial reaction (albeit without having read the full guidance, and gaining an understanding of its purpose) is that this is unjust.
There is an echo within that that it may be an attempted politicisation of sentencing guidelines.

Ethnic background may be a mitigation within a hearing, and therefore sentencing - but I think this is already covered within existing guidelines.

It is concerning on the surface.
It might, however, be a catalyst for reform of the Sentencing Council.
 
@markysimmo the Telegraph reported now that 50 grooming gangs were in operation up and down the country. Sir Starmer when questioned could not deny or confirm the exact number and refused to say if they were all Labour run councils.

Mark I will never approve of racism. But I also will not let a misguided notion of political correctness let me shy away from asking the difficult questions. If the are or were 50 grooming gangs it would give even more credence to my suggestion that it is an institutional problem.

So fight a supposed bias, if I'm to believe that judges are currently a racist lot:oops: by telling them to be prejudiced but just in a different way.

It's just indefensible and your so married to your identity politics you don't care for justice. Really hope if you have son's they never end up in any sort of trouble as they won't be given a fair crack of the whip.

If ethnic minorities are getting longer sentences for the same crimes (which is a fact) - you think justice is leaving that as it is.

My favourite new thing I've learnt about is the 1752 Calendar Riots. This was when Britain changed from the Julian to Gregorian calendar, and the Tories whipped up their plebs to riot about their 'stolen 11 days' and the devious popery behind it.
