No state should exist on the basis of religion, partition was a bad idea. Not the gothcya you expected is it. I am Kashmiri by ethnicity so believe me my people have suffered endlessly due to those ridiculous borders. It is a part of the reason we ended up in the UK (the only good bit)

The basic allowance for the council's 101 representatives of all parties will now rise from £18,876 to £19,952 per annum. That is meant to recompense councillors for working an estimated 3.5 days a week on council business, with a quarter of that time deemed to be 'voluntary'.

That doesnt seem right to me.
My understanding is councillors tend to work 0.8 FTE in their day job and 0.2 FTE in their council role. Their council role isnt paid, in some cases the employer continues to pay them at 1 FTE as goodwill. Their basic allowance, which is often about £3k pa, is more a slush fund for expenses.
All council meetings have to be after 5:30 pm in recognition that they are voluntary roles, done in addition to paid employment

Train travel is by far the nicest mode of transport (no I'm not talking about rush hour trains at Clapham Junction).
Trained it overnight down to Bourg St Maurice from Ashford once for a snowboarding trip...drops you right off below Les Arcs and early in the morning as well...so on the slopes that day.
Flights and transfers to loads of mountain resorts are a pain in the arse (not Morzine though)
My idea of true escape and luxury...long train rides in comfort...the tea trolly service...the time...the calm...blisssssssss...

You take land to secure your core area, your core area is expanded so you take more land to protect that.
