Well, we also have to pay the money to get this fella. Given that we're refusing to pay a much smaller fee for Lo Celso, it stretches credibility that we would be open to showing on-pitch ambition on this scale.
We are ahead of United in terms of immediate attractiveness, in a sporting sense - not in a historical sense, of course. But that will only come into play if the money is equivalent - and we aren't looking like matching the spending of United, or even Arsenal, this season.

They should announce Pepe for 72m today, smashing our transfer record and pushing their spending past 120m - mostly net spending too, I think, although possible that will be recouped by sales once the signings are all in.
Either way, not bad for a skint Europa League dump of a club, I'm sure you'll agree.

Well, to give you the reverse, last summer the cry from a lot of folks was 'Poch had money to spend, he just didn't want to sign anyone available on the market/no one available who would improve us'.
The man himself said this last week -
""Last year, in the same situation as today, they say we have money but Pochettino does not want to sign. It’s not like this. We wanted to sign the right players."
People believe flimflam ITK/rumors as easily when it supports their own views. People wanted to believe that Poch had money to spend - truth is, he got a big fat zero to spend last year, and thus we spent a big fat zero last year. Nothing to do with choosiness. So it works both ways, imo.

No one said poch didn't want to sign anyone last season, most sensible people said he didn't want to sign just some random player for the sake of it. Big difference, and it's exactly what he says in your quote. How you can twist that is beyond me.

But they clearly have money issues which means unless they get an influx of cash they can’t keep on adding
Anyone who turns out to be good could easily be flogged to pay for the players they have brought
And of course we don’t know how any of the signings will turn out

I would debate the strengthening their squad, their problems are in defence which they have not addressed.
Imv adding forwards to an already fairly strong forward line isn't strengthening.
Most transfers are done this way, we have no way of knowing of its future budget.

Yes but with that project with the Sheikh they actually won stuff. That isnt going to happen at United. Apparently Dybala and Pogba are best mates so that can help. Wouldnt want to work under Solskjaer though, would you?

It's silly to judge players on their transfer fee. Let's see who has the bigger impact come the turn of the year, then we can judge who has done better.
The comparison that we can make now is do the signings improve the team where needed. In our case Ndombele looks like he has, I'm not sure that Pepe fills a priority area for Arsenal.
