Our fans

The last time it was good when under Jol when we had Berbs and Keane and we scored over 100 goals 2 years in a row

The atmosphere has been crap for every home game thus far this season.

And it was crap for pretty much every home game last season too.

marky hit the tickle my balls with a feather. The problem is we have been divided for a while now. A lot of Spurs didn't want Redknapp at the club and couldn't get excited what we'd achieved under him. But a lot of Spurs fans did get excited about the Redknapp era and now it's over for those fans things are a bit flat because it does feel like we've gone backwards (mainly down to the departure of Modric and VDV).

I think the Berbatov departure also changed a lot of people's expectations, which is another reason I'd never welcome him back. That was the dawning moment for a lot of our fans who realised our club isn't as big as we think it is and that it's not a case of if our best players will leave us for a bigger club.......but when.

I've been to 5 league games since the start of last season and they are nowhere near as good as when I attended regularly in 2003. I don't care what you say (I await that Poksi slep fella telling me their money's as good as mine) but there are so many wags around the lane compared to ten years ago.

In the few games I've been to I've sang my heart out but people around haven't been particularly vocal. One guy sat reading virtually the whole programme during the match.

The atmosphere is brick simple as!

Lets not polish a turd. Its been happening for a while now and its reached boiling point this season and the last.
The club needs to do something about it - Why do they make the Park lane lower and the shelfside sit down? Everyone knows that is where the atmosphere is generated, if you dont want to sit there, dont buy a ticket there, simple as!

I cant wait for the first North London Derby to see what happens. I completely agree with 1882's sentiment by the way - Modern football is crap!

Wasn't exactly an exciting game though was it last night? OK, we had two perfectly good goals disallowed but the tempo of our play was slow and Lazio just sat back looking for the draw.

I do not agree with that at all, however even if that was true how do you explain the poor atmosphere at the home games for the last couple of seasons.

I have been going to the Lane for more years then i care to remember and i agree with the OP, the atmosphere at home games is pretty brick and has been getting worse for years. To be honest i much prefer the away games, both for singing and support, there seems to be more "proper" fans at the away games then the " i want to be entertained phalanx" which attends the home games.

As i have posted here before there are lots of dingdongheads ( at the Lane) who spend most of the games booing and slagging of players as soon as they make a mistake, you very rarely hear any booing at the away games.

Sadly true.

There is a third category, that is 'people who were excited during the Redknapp era but started to get disillusioned'...I am genuinely NOT trying to start something mate, I just think that it is not as polarized as that. I also think that 'generally' the intensity of polarized feeling is far less in the general populace than here...

I don't disagree with you to be honest. What has knocked me for six is how arrogant and plastic our fans became when we had a whiff of success. It started under Jol. All of a sudden if there wasn't year in year out improvement the manager had to go etc. Two 5th places weren't good enough. Then 4th, 5th, 4th isn't good enough. Manager has taken us as far as he can flimflam, flimflam, flimflam etc. Fans who have that attitude will never truly enjoy the present....ever. And in a few years the mentality of our fans (which was never good in the first place IMHO, our lot aren't very realistic at the best of times) has really turned to brick.

Also, there needs to be more appropriate chants to other fans considering the average fan has changed from working class to middle class

Instead of chanting the Same old brick, start singing stuff like ' "Do your kids go to private school,
Do your kids go to private school'
la la la la ,
la la la la"

Seriously guys, these are the songs of the future with all this money still flooding into the game

definitely, that covers me, delighted when he got the job and with his first 2 years work, disgusted with the 2 late season collapses and therefore pleased that he's been replaced

Does one's mater know one's here

Dones one's mater, does one's mater, does one's mater know one's here

Could it be the Europa League effect, i.e. playing matches midweek and Sundays? The fans are less likely to have been in the pub socialising in the same way as at a Saturday 3pm k.o. That's been a feature of the last few seasons.
It isn't - I managed to go to the youth game the other week and woke up the next day with a non-existent voice. Even then I was starting a lot of chants and had to get people going in quiet stages (dont mean to be big-headed).

People can't be arsed for it, they think they're above Lazio but what have we won in the last 20 years? Not much. A bit of success and everyone acts big time. It would be more fun supporting the team in league one and I mean that.

You don't need to be tinkled to start a bloody song or join in.

Really aggregates me - since the main reason I attend live games is to get involved in singing and being witty.

That shouldn't matter. We played PAOK away last season and drew 0-0 in a dull contest. That didn't stop them singing, chanting and clapping for 90 minutes.
