Our fans

It was good in patches, but for the most part, it's been rubbish for a few seasons now. Even North London Derbies aren't as loud as they used to be. You can barely hear us singing at the Emirates either, the fact that we always lose by 3 goals there probably doesn't help.
 
Could it be the Europa League effect, i.e. playing matches midweek and Sundays? The fans are less likely to have been in the pub socialising in the same way as at a Saturday 3pm k.o. That's been a feature of the last few seasons.

We've just become utterly brick. And we desperately need to do something about it.

I was going to say that, what with rising costs of giing to the match, people coming from longer distances people are maybe not having a few pints before hand....
 
People hear what they want

- Every game, home or away we play, I hear us on the TV, while the Lazio fans made some noise, I certainly heard Spurs songs.

- If the amount of people that bitch about the support actually went to games and sang, maybe it wouldn't be an issue?


Non-smartass answer, it's pressure telling, people want to blame the prawn sandwich phalanx or ticket prices, that's flimflam, Spurs has always been one of the more expensive clubs to support.

True issue imo is when you are brick (see the fans from some of the promoted clubs), results don't matter (you don't win that often so might as well enjoy the game regardless). Now that we are in the CL mix, the pressure to get every point is not only on the players, but the fans, and I think that takes away from the just "enjoy the game" experience. I can tell you for myself, I watch the games, know we need CL, know AVB needs wins to get the media of his back, and even when we are playing well, it's a stressful experience ... more stress, more expectation seems to translate into a less atmosphere
 
I've said this for ages, people keep going on about how Arsenal, Chelsea etc are rubbish yet I go to about 10/15 games a season and only if we score or get a decision against us is there any noise, bar maybe a couple of the big games. The atmosphere on a good day is pretty poor these days.....

Spot on. Ones the first goal would had gone in, the atmosphere would have been fine last night. It wasnt that bad anyway.
 
I think it's more to do with demographics. For example Saudi Sportswashing Machine probably have a far greater proportion of working class fans, who spend a higher percentage of their salary than our fans. Hence, this is shown in their enthusiasm to get value for money and enjoy their hard earned cash. Without being disparaging, last nights game which was attended by a reasonable section of middle class ST's holders, who are more averse to sitting back and quietly enjoying the game.

Indeed it is.

But the cure is a simple one.

fudging sing!

I guarantee, you'll feel less stressed for it.

And you can pretty much guarantee that, in the vast majority of instances, it will help our players too. Which will lead to better performances, results and even less stress.

Everyone seems to be falling over themselves to make excuses for the fans.

But that's all they are - excuses. And they're feeble.

Let's talk about solutions instead.
 
As someone who regularly sits in the Paxton (Lower), I found last nights atmosphere to be quite surreal and our support "sporadic" at best. From what I could see, half of the Park Lane Upper was empty, which didn't help, especially as this end is often the heartbeat of our support.

If the reports about Lazio fans directing racist abuse towards some of our black players are true, then I think it wrong to hold them up as a yardstick to measure decent support.

As for the away support at Reading, I thought it was pretty good to be honest; our two thousand odd voices made ourselves heard, although we were better on the opening day of the season.

I do agree that the whole WHL vibe has deteriorated to the point, where people seem more intent on discussing the latest episode of a well known "soap opera", then get behind the team and there is the rub!

Having seen some of the recent comments on here regarding our managers, our players etc., allied with how the club treats the fans, I can understand where some of the more hardcore, vocal supporters has gone.

In essence, I agree with the OP, I only wonder what we as a board can do to change things? Ideas anyone?

So we have to score for there to be a good atmosphere? That's ok then yeah....Even then the crowd will only create a decent atmosphere for a few minutes before it reverts to type.

Was you there last night? If you were then I'm surprised you reckon it was fine last night, I was there and it was pretty much all Lazio save for when they started singing about Gazza then our fans joined in....
 
I have been going to the Lane for more years then i care to remember and i agree with the OP, the atmosphere at home games is pretty brick and has been getting worse for years. To be honest i much prefer the away games, both for singing and support, there seems to be more "proper" fans at the away games then the " i want to be entertained phalanx" which attends the home games.

As i have posted here before there are lots of dingdongheads ( at the Lane) who spend most of the games booing and slagging of players as soon as they make a mistake,you very rarely hear any booing at the away games.
 
The 1882 guys are a perfectly example of what to do. It all boils down to a bit of organisation really as they have shown, but I do understand that more vocal fans are distributed all over the stadium so it's hard to get any momentum going. The drum helped but we won't see that back.

I wonder is it something the club actually care about at the end of the day?
 
It was terrible without a doubt. I think I was the only one singing in my block. Awful atmosphere, felt like a bloody friendly. I said it yesterday, if that were a champions league game it would have been absolutely rocking. It's not just a Tottenham Hotspur problem, it's english football in general.
 
This is my 9th year as a ST holder and it has got worse each year.Used to really enjoy being at WHL but now its dull-crap old unoriginal songs,and stewards who wont leave you alone if you stand for more than 30 seconds
