OMT - Tottenham vs. West Ham

Annoyed at the persistent overlooking of Sandro. Maybe AVB wants to offload him as he's a character, much like he did with BAE.

He's still working his way back to full speed - still not quite yet there for me.

I think AVB would see him as a positive character. BAE "I only play for money" wasn't and we're best of rid of him.

Thing is how is Soldado supposed to get going unless he keeps getting played...it's like wearing in a pair of new shoes! You need to keep wearing them until they're comfy.

If you wear them a few times and put them in a cupboard as they're a bit uncomfortable they'll never get comfy

so do we take it that Soldado is being blamed for his lack of goals?

personally i see it as more of a supply issue.

totally behind JD today, don't get me wrong, but i think that's harsh on Soldado.

Defoe will be greedy as anything today but he deserves the start. Soldado has just being a fraction short of quality in front of goal. I'll be interested to see if JD can keep Townsend honest creating and providing rather than wasting opportunities.

There is no point having a big squad fighting for places if you do not reward patience and performance. Well done JD, now get your goal.

COYS.

well said.

He's better than Dembele. He has played well in every game that he's played in, what else can he do unless he's given a Premiership start?

Er....no he isn't. Do you actually watch games? Dembele has been consistently our best player on the pitch this season IMO and much of last. Sandro is a great player and a beast but doesn't have the same level of technique and skill.

Think it's more a case of defoe scoring for fun

Against teams who wouldn't be good enough to survive in the PL. Ridiculous decision if you ask me. We haven't been creating chances for Soldado and he gets the blame for it?

Soldado adds a lot more to the team in build up than Defoe. We already know what Defoe can do good and bad, and we were meant to be upgrading. The worst thing we can do is to heap pressure on Soldado in this way. it's not going to get a better performance out of him. if Defoe was good enough, why not just buy a second striker.. Presumably if Kane had scored in the cup matches he would be starting ahead of Soldado.

How has Soldado been short of quality in front of goal?!?!? Remind me of the chances he's been missing in order to back that claim up

I think they're both equally good(but at different things) but until Dembele(or Paulinho) suffers an injury or loss of form then there's no reason why either should be dropped, Sandro will have to wait.

If Defoe was good enough, he'd of also been an established international, yet he isn't despite England having poor forwards. And if he was good enough, an established top 4 team would have signed him some time in his career. But no-one has

Soldado has been fine; dropping him like this is crazy

There's been some right ****e posted in this thread today. It seems that it is any excuse to moan for some.

Soldado's not an established international either, in fact he wasn't even called up for the latest squad whereas Defoe was ...

we shall see.....nice to see all this faith in the manager lol........for all we know defoe has trained harder and is better suited vs opposition........ergo he starts...

Spain have slightly more quality in the final third than England! England have Rooney and that's about it

Still not fully match fit, the EL is a whole different ball game in terms of intensity. Besides, moose and Paulinho haven't really dropped form yet.

Defoe's record with England is 19 goals in 54 matches (many as a sub).

That's a goal for every 2.84 games played.

Rooney averages a goal for England for every 2.39 games played - hardly a vast difference, is there?

In fact, Rooney has played 6,278 minutes for England, averaging a goal every 174 minutes.

While Defoe has played 2,319 minutes for England and averaged a goal for every 122 minutes.

Spain's strikers aren't great, hence why they play Fabregas up front a lot of the time. I don't think Spain's quality up front is that much better(if at all) than England's.
