Just back at the hotel. Well that was fudging miserable. 0-3 against probably the worst United team in recent memory who were begging to crack under a bit of pressure but we couldn't apply it.
Thought Romero, Royal, Hojbjerg, Lucas and Son did OK. Hugo couldnt be blamed either. Skipp had a mare but I won't be Captain Hindsight here. I'm a massive fan but he just had one of those games and it wasn't just the second goal.
I know a lot of fans are down on the players but I wouldn't be today. They tried. Son busted a nut all day, Hjobjerg tried his heart out, Gio was throwing in tackles, Romero went for everything, Royal was throwing in huge tackles at 0-3. Even Davies was so frustrated that he lashed out towards the end. Kane, for all the brick he is getting was chasing back when the game was lost
These players do care. They're being let down by clueless tactics from the dugout.
We have no attacking plan. 5, 6, 7 times second half, we slowly worked the ball out right to Royal and Son but United had got back into shape and closed the space. It was a fudging eyesore. No urgency, no guile, no clue. "Nuno has sorted out the defence" was something I heard all week. He has in my hoop. 0-3 v Man U? Shambolic.
The decision to hook Lucas was beyond belief. He was the only one who looked like he might get lucky with a dribble. The boos were merited. It wasn't even an attempt to change the game. Bergwijn for Moura. What the fudge is Bergwijn going to offer that will be much different to Moura? Head scratching doesn't begin to sum that one up.
Nuno is clueless and there are signs he is losing control. He made a big statement in his press conference yet didn't back it up. Those who were dropped sat on the bench and still played a part. You can't have players who, by your own admission, aren't committed and allow them in the squad. When Poch did it, from memory, he took the big decisions and got rid. Nuno talked the talk but didn't walk the walk.
Something also struck me in the warm up. May be something of nothing but it did stick with me. They were doing a shooting drill that started well but turned into an indisciplined mess. Kind of like drills I've done with 10 year olds that fall apart when you know theyve stopped listening to you. I don't expect that from professionals.
I want to want Nuno to have the year because having appointed him, I think you have to give him a fair chance. But it's hard. The players are better than this brick. The results are poor or, at least, the defeats are unacceptably poor. The noises of the players not warming to him are a worry. His utterances are either uninspiring or not backed up. He's now under severe pressure and the shouts of "you don't know what you're doing" and "we want Nuno out" will get louder and more regular.
I've a lot to say on Levy too but will leave that for another time. I hope he sat very uncomfortably in his seat today because he's sewn the seeds of this mess.
