Wish we go into this match in better form. With only 1 win in the last 6 matches, we definately have to improve our form if we want to progress. Hope we will give our best to try to overcome Basel and get the ticket to the semi final. After being so close to our first semi final in Europe since 1984, it will be really disappointing if we don't make use of it. Hope we will get all the luck we can get to overcome Basel and progress.
It is always going to be difficult without Bale and Lennon. We will need inspiration from somewhere to get something out of this game. I think Dembele and Adebayor will be our key players in this match. Dembele was our saviour both against Lyon and Inter in almost similiar fashion when he dribbled past the defence and shot. His shot got the goal for us against Lyon and enabled Adebayor to score against Inter. Hope Dembele will step up like that against Basel. Adebayor has been in fine form recently, scoring 3 goals in his last 5 matches. Hope he can score again in this match.
Apart from Dembele, Sigurdsson is the only one who can inspire us from midfield in this match. Like Adebayor he has scored in his last 2 matches. Hope he can continue scoring. Just cannot see anyone else scoring in this match, except maybe Vertonghen. I think Holtby needs more time to show what he can do for us. Just wish he can score in this match. Really disappointed with Dempsey since his return from injury. He doesn't look like scoring nowadays. We can really do with his earlier goal scoring run !
Just cannot see our defence keeping a clean sheet in this match. Just hope they will do less mistake to enable us outscore Basel. Wish Lloris plays in goal instead of Friedel. Maybe Friedel's experience will help him and us in this match. Vertonghen really needs to step up and pull our defence together as there are too many error-prone players around him. He really needs to use all his experience to help our defence in this match.
This being our only chance of winning a trophy, hope all the players will step up their game and rise to the challenge. We have the quality to overcome Basel. We only need to show the right mentality to match it. We need to win this match in normal time or even extra time as long as it doesn't go into penalties. With our poor record in penalties, we should do all we can to avoid it. Hope we will overcome Basel and make it to the semi final.
