***OMT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Vitesse***

Dier will have to work very hard to earn further playing time under Conte. At fault for both goals. Gets out-thought and out-fought for the first, nutmegged on the second. For being such a big guy, he plays small.

Romero's second yellow was a complete screw-up by him. He had three other defenders behind him. No need to panic and tackle the Vitesse guy. Just turn and run with him to minimize his time and space on the ball. We're seeing a guy still not fully adjusted to his backline team mates and making rash decisions. He's a good player but Conte will need to focus on making him play smarter.

Hojbjerg was curiously inept moving the ball forward. We see him stroking passes with precision for Denmark yet he misses on line and length far too often when playing with Spurs. He's got hospital pass written all over him and needs to be sorted before he gets one of our attacking players injured.

I was pretty happy with Kane, Reguilon, Emerson and Son. And Lloris, who had to be sharp on some well-directed shots.
I’ve always criticised Dier for his brain farts but I fail to see how that second goal was his fault. It was sloppy play by Moura that gave them the opportunity to shoot, the fact the shot went through his legs is neither here nor there. That being said I do think Sanchez is the better defender and should be ahead of him….

It wasnt his fault at all. Moura gave the ball away, Emerson was lazy in chasing back and Skipp could, maybe, have been further across. I dont hugely rate Dier, but their second wasnt on him at all

Some have decided that whenever we concede it's Diers fault instead of actually looking at what caused the goal.

I have no idea about tactics, but it did look to me like our players receiving the ball in the center of the pitch had plenty of space on many occasions. The result of the wingbacks really providing width and creating more space in the middle?

I see that the kid who ran on and got Kane's shirt and a cuddle from Hugo at full time had the shirt taken off him and was questioned by police after the game.

GOOD, that brick tinkles me off - his old man is sticking pics of him crying on twitter to get Kane to send the shirt to them again.

Totally irresponsible of the dad to let the boy run onto the pitch. I don't believe for one moment the kid did it of his own accord. From what I could see he slipped and got a whack in the face (not deliberate) from one of the security staff.
When he was brought back to his seat, having been given the shirt, there seemed to be quite a bit of a row going on with one of the security heads (not the high-vis-wearing ones), and then they got escorted away.
I am glad he didn't get to keep the shirt, otherwise it just encourages others.

Agreed. Pretty f**king idiotic of the dad to let his kid go on the pitch like that. Jesus Christ, he actually put him in physical danger. The mind boggles.

As you say, it'd just encourage others to do it if he got the shirt.

He should've got out closer to the player IMO but that is nitpicking somewhat.... I very much doubt he will be in Conte's team this time next year however.

Fun to watch, but what a mess. A number of players didn't cover themselves in glory...

Romero - needless sending off
Skipp/Hojberg - Neat and tidy but we need more to control the middle of the pitch. If we're playing 3 at the back then surely one of Ndombele or GLC have to start
Reg/Davies - both do some things well but also erratic at times
Moura - see above. Erratic and sloppy moments mixed with some excellent attacking play

We have to learn how to play through a press and look after the ball better. For me that comes with better technical players in the middle of the park

It was sloppy play by Moura, agreed. However before the ball had reached him we had encouraged a lot of pressure in that area of the pitch by not clearing the ball.

Agree it's breaking a law going onto the field of play so you don't do it whether you're man, woman, child, you have legs, you don't

I must say, people were going on about how rubbish the standard of this competition will be - Regardless of our form, both Vitesse and Rennes have been impressive. Factor in the likes of Roma and Europa League dropouts, whilst not the tournament we want to be competing in it is not the complete non entity of a tournament some want to make it out to be....
