***OMT*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Fulham

I just watched highlights of Man U vs Everton

United lined up with a 40 year old in central midfield, but had really strong chances, hit the post and bar, Rooney missed chances he would normally score, Howard made lots of saves... but Everton end up winning 0-1 and the headlines are all about Moyes being incompetent. If it had ended 1-0 the headlines would have been what a cunning masterclass it was.-1

For peddling a Paulinho-like agenda against a Mod, rightly or wrongly.. I'm just calling it as I see it.

you still bitter the mod told you to quit trolling a few days ago?

Anyway good win but not a good performance. Hopefully we can beat Sunderland.

should be talk in the press of him nearing the sack tomorrow then surely...

Punk is right though, we want to see the ball played out quicker in the midfield. We want to see someone drop and recieve it on the turn and pick out a pass to a player who is doing the same. At the moment we constantly have players recieving the ball with their backs to goal and a man on their back, they can't do anything more than pass backwards. Lennon seems and exception here because he seems to be able to create space for himself prior to receiving it, something a few players could learn

Nope, just trying to give you a friendly heads up :)

Agreed about the good win, but I think it was a pretty solid performance.. Our fans expectations are a bit outrageous these days!

Onwards and upwards.

I would definitely start Lennon every game he's fit but I think he gets space because he hugs the touchline, teams flood the centre against us and thats where the space is, Townsend/Siggy/Lamela/Chadli et al all come inside at the first opportunity

Lennon goes round the back before heading in

I don't think that he does any more, he cuts inside as much as anyone

seems to me this season that he gets deeper vertically and his feeds are from the touchline, rather than on the diagonal

He gets a bit of both, but what he does do is make that quick dart down the line causing his fullback to start to sprint back to his own goal. Lennon then comes back to receive the ball and with his first touch is already facing towards his man and starting to attack. Also though watch him in other games like against Man UTD on the weekend, he came inside and Evra got the booking. Plenty of times last season he came darting in with his fullback trailing behind him only for the ball to be played over the top for Walker to move onto. We just need a bit more of that with compression of play on the left side/central and Lennon to come in for the ball, to regularly get Walker into crossing positions.

So in a match that required 2 goals to win, we scored 2 goals. They scored from an individual mistake made by a player that's probably only playing due to injuries to others. We had 18 shots, in a London derby, away from home.

How is that getting out of jail? If Usain Bolt wins a sprint by 0.01 seconds us that getting out of jail or simply winning?

If the rest of the field all fall down, it doesn't mean it was a great performance by Bolt.

A win yes, but not necessarily a performance. And remember who we were playing.

You'd expect this team to look like the best Spurs side ever then, right? Or does that just go to prove that, in isolation, stats aren't always very meaningful?

If we keep playing in this same way, it will end badly for us. We are treading water without Bale and I don't see anything in AVB's management to indicate that things will change for the better.

The two things don't always go hand in hand.

I've seen some fantastic looking Spurs teams who ended-up with nothing at the end of the season.

What AVB has achieved so far is a very solid base on which to improve on.

At craven cottage with the fans great Win lol and some funny fans never happy hahaha lol

Benny knows.

What makes you think that?

Statto posted that AVB's win ratio is the best ever for a Spurs manager -- this was a response to me saying that I don't think we have played particularly well across AVB's 52 league games in charge. (IMO, we have been dogged and picked up points via spectacular goals, mainly from the boot of Bale. We don't look very good in attack as a unit, like Arsenal, City, even Liverpool do.)

So if the stats show his record to be the best of any Spurs boss, then you'd think -- if the stats are meaningful -- that the team we are watching would be the best, or one of the best, Spurs teams to have played in this history of the club. But that's obviously b*llocks; in short, stats don't always tell the full story.

What will end badly? We've been playing this way for a year and a half. We've had periods of good form and bad form. What suggests to you that it will all suddenly come crashing down around us?

To me it looks like we have a great platform without Bale to win games, and a squad full of talent. I can understand if people don't like the direction we are going but at least accept its merits of the idea behind it, but to outright say our approach is heading us down a dark path isn't really true.

Out of interest, do the people that don't like the way we are playing have an alternative system that they would like to see us utilise, that will also give us the best chance of punching above our financial weight and finishing ahead of our competitors in the other big sides? I ask this as a genuine question, and I am totally respectful of the decision to not like what we are currently doing. I personally feel though that we need our system to help us get to where we want to go, and a more gung ho style in every game would see us fall short as we have done years previously.
