OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs Eintracht Frankfurt

View attachment 19236

The long balls and the quick forward passes are what we have to deal with next week
Their side looked huge in the ground. Every player looked like they were 6 ft 4
I don’t know if that came across on tele or ish just me
But they didn’t seem great in the air considering
I did like the speed they got the ball forward though

I felt the same. They looked huge but then we got so many headers in one their goal wheras there weren't that dangerous from set-pieces.
However, they looked like a team that had a game plan and all players were mainly following it.
I do worry that they played somewhat within themselves in doing so and when they press us into turnovers at their place we won't be able to live with them. Sadly

If we had cohesive/competent tactics i think we'd beat them

Nah, this is just the sort of fanciful thing that gets said because Ange didn't do it. As soon as Werner was getting any game time people complained about his performances, the idea that Ange playing Werner more would have worked out better is to be polite optimistic and just a classic example of Ange being damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. All it highlights is that we need better wingers because Son isn't the answer, and Werner sure as hell isn't....
....or better luck with injuries

Got to love the narrative for people who have gone in hard against Ange. Of course we had no tactics, and of course they followed a great gameplan! What wonderful game plan was this that by all stats we had the better chances, dominated for periods and only a combination of poor finishing and their keeper preventing us a win that no one would have questioned and the media consensus was that we deserved more. Their brilliant gameplan no doubt involved us hitting the crossbar twice, allowing us 6 shots on target to their 2 having 3 times the number of corners etc etc.

I can definitely envisage had we put in such a performance coughing up such opportunities, you would have revelled in Ange's gameplan......

I thought son had a son game
His pass for our goal was great
He is rarely ever beating his man as we know now
His shot wasn’t son of old but it was still a great shot well saved
He was decent last night and I’m one who thinks he shouldn’t be getting anywhere near the minutes he is getting
Maddison is the frustrating one
When in the final third… he is a player
Everywhere else on the pitch he is pedestrian
Maddison wants to be a conductor, he then plays the game at his pace. I think that rarely computes in modern football. It's all about cogs in sync and whirring at pace.
Well oiled machines.

He can play fast when closer to goal, and his twist and turn moves when in the area are a weapon BUT in the main he wants to be a conductor of play.

And he can’t conduct because he can’t move well enough
He reminds me of jan molby when playing deep

I think that is how they play
No coincidence their form has been poor and all over the place because they play counter attacking and don’t actually worry about keeping the ball
They have lost lately to some poor sides compared to the league position
I think part of it is people known they olqy now and even more so without Marmoush

It is interesting because somewhere in there, it feels like he lacks the deep-level consistent confidence necessary to fulfil his potential. It affects his decision-making as well as his pace of play. On Thursday, in the first few minutes he received the ball in positions on the left where there was a clear channel to attack/try and progress through, instead he stopped the ball and played a safe pass backwards. The first time he decided to try and be adventurous was when there two men onto him and the simple pass along out left was the one to make; he went for the first, lost the ball and we ended up conceding (I don't blame him solely for the goal BTW)...I saw Vic geeing him up before the game; it struck me as weird. I mean, good on Vic, but Maddison shouldn't need that?

Maddison’s problem is technical
He isn’t able to switch play without turning his body. It’s incredibly weird almost like he has a frozen right hip
I don’t think I’ve seen a player like him in a long time… even when he passes to his favoured left side it’s with a wrap around pass. That’s not how anyone plays
Now when he does come alive and play good passes is when he is going towards the byline. He then passes like a tricky winger.
Just feels to me like his skill set doesn’t suit the position he plays anymore and as we’re a possession side it’s highlighting it much more too
