OMT *** Tottenham Hotspur vs CSKA Moscow***

Spoke to a Russian this morning, they thought CSKA had the better of the game! Just shows how biased everyone is. CSKA probably did have more clear shots first half. But we controlled the game, and had more openings, and second half we could have scored a few.

We miss an older head in attack - been saying it for a while. Dembele and Sissoko can potentially help calm things, keep the attackers patient and get the passing more accurate.

Majority of CSKA fans on Russian sport sites think that Tottenham deserved the win, although CSKA was able to escape with a draw. And many of them criticise heavily Slutski's coward tactics.

Yes considering we're away in a tough place missing lots of first team players, we did well. We have taken a step forward with the squad this season.

But turning chances and dominance into goals is an outstanding issue. Team need to be cold, clinical, focused on the deconstructed job of moving a ball into a space of 8 feet by 8 yards. Technically we have the skills, but we lose composure too often.

With the next match being 3 weeks away, hopefully our injuries bar Kane will have cleared up. Still wish we could have had Defoe as a back-up/alernative. No matter what a lot say, he still knows where that net is.

He does, but at his age he certainly does not fit into our current player profile. And while he is, as the song says, a Yiddo, having a player like that is the Old Spurs Way. We have to be patient with Janssen assume that Poch is selecting him because of what his contribution to the team is rather than needing to play a recognized striker up top.
 
Leverkusen going to be much tougher opposition. Volland and chicharito will be a handful up front and pretty solid at the back. Forgot Lars Bender plays for them.

Yet CSKA drew with them and scored a couple in doing so

No one is easy and no or should be in an elite competition but we're going the right way and in confident we will go through this group
 
Don't think we'll get anything from Monaco at their gaff - conversely, I think we'll get three points from CSKA when they come to Wembley. Ten points usually guarantees you progression to the knockout round, so I'd be fine with a point at the BayArena provided we win te return.

4pts min has to be target for the back-to-back games. Then basically the winner of the match at Monaco will determine who wins the group

Leverkusen should have been out of sight very unlucky not to win. Monaco were fortunate to equalize did it by going route 1. I think Leverkusen will be tougher .
 
It is great to get our first win in the CL. This was a much-needed win after the way we lost to Monaco in our first CL match. But for all the chances we created in this match, we should have won by a bigger score. We need to be more ruthless in front of goal. We have been wasting too many goal scoring chances so far this season. CSKA Moscow were poor and didn't trouble us much. So, it would have been unacceptable if we had not won this match.

Credit to Son for scoring our winning goal and Lamela for assisting it. Son has now scored 5 goals in 4 matches for us. Let's hope he wil continue his goal run at least until Kane returns. Too bad Janssen still can''t score his first goal from open play for us. He did score from a inch-perfect pass from Lamela but was off side. I think Janssen was too eager to score as he was off side too many times despite getting good passes. Lamela didn't have a great game but still created the winning goal for Son. Lamela now has 2 assists in CL after assisting the goal for Alderweireld against Monaco.

Our midfield had a mixed game. CSKA were poor but our midfield did what they have to do without being outstanding. Players like Eriksen and Alli had a quite game despite our domination. Alli was unlucky not to score when his shot hit the post but he also wasted at least one other chance to score. Wanyama got another unnecessary yellow card so early in the game. Fortunately for him, he didn't do anything silly after that.

Well done to our defence for keeping the clean sheet. CSKA didn't attack much but our defence did well to guard our goal. Lloris, Vertonghen and Alderweireld were alert when they were needed to. Frankly, CSKA didn't look like scoring all match. Too bad we couldn't score more.

After the disappointing defeat to Monaco, we badly needed to win this match.Let's hope this win will give us the much needed confidence to go very far in the CL.
