OMT ***Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace***

Didn't half look weird walking up Worcester Avenue being able to see the Park lane jumbotron, but the missing corner will soon grow on us, not convinced we lost 4000 seats from those few blocks, surely only around 3000

xG map for #COYS-#CPFC. This was peak Poche Spurs, something out of last March.

Remarkably little passing output by Eriksen.
Janssen was found a lot, and linked well with Lamela.

Most important thing was getting the win out the way. Poch and the team can kick on now. No doubt some work to do, getting us playing at our peek level again.

Just remembered that they were making two substitutions ahead of defending a corner, which is supposedly a big sin (even though one of the two coming off was injured). Wouldn't you know it, Tomkins came on and lost Wanyama for the goal.

Where did those 5 minutes of added time come from? I know the palace players where a lot down on the floor, but 5 minutes seemed a bit too much

this, 3 points in the bag, our two new players obviously contributing ...

somedays I really don't know what people expect ...

I think Poch prefers Wanyama to Dier. That is why he is forcing him in the team when we do not need to holding midfielders. When Dembele is back im pretty sure it will Dier that makes way.
I can see them rotating tbh. Neither of them is suited to covering for Dembele in my opinion, but at the moment it is needs must. I still think Dier is better.

If he continues to play Janssen I also see it affecting HArry's game. Yes he can play deep and has a decent pass. But he is at his most effective at the point of the attack. We are negating what he brings to the team to force Janssen in.
Kane played as a #10 during his development years. IF we continue with both him and Janssen then he will eventually find his goalscoring form. It's early days, and I'm not 100% sold on the system yet, but if we can get Kane acclimatised to that role and crashing shots in from the edge of the box more often then he will do alright.

When Dembele comes back where is one of Dele, Eriksen and Lamela going to go if Kane is back in those positions.
We are in the Champs League, we need this sort of competition, it's a good thing. The running this squad are going to do this year is going to mean that those three and Son are all going to need rest periods.

I think its no co-incidence that Kane and Dier have looked average so far this season out of position. Whilst Wanyam and Janssen have had good starts.
Agreed, but even Kane himself has admitted he's not 100% on it yet. Still there is always going to be a period of time where they are learning the role.

I feel it has to be one or the other with both of them. Dier or Wanyama, Kane or Janssen. But not for the formation all over to get them all in.
I agree to a point. Certainly with regards to Dier and Wanyama, but the Kane-Janssen situation could bear fruit. Even if we don't go forwards with them playing together, we will at times need to play with them together. It's probably best to give them time together early on so that they learn eachother's game and so that Poch can assess the situation.
I can see it working either ways.

I think Poch needs time to bed his new players in, I'm kinda annoyed that we look like we still need more time. Every game is important, including the first few.

It's always nice to see chronic time wasting come back to bite the culprits on the arse.

Yes, but sometimes it can end up helping a team. There ended up being 5mins added time, of which I am sure might have been due to Henessey's constant antics. When a team falls behind after constant timewasting it is a shame that time cant be subtracted from the added time as a punishment.
I know it is impossible to enforce, but I felt that 5mins yesterday gave them a chance to equalise which they didnt deserve

That was so funny. Delaney was on the floor right near the deadball line refusing to move the one yard to get off the pitch. Then when he realised he was getting subbed he tried to signal to the bench he was fine (even though he was in agony 20 seconds earlier). When they ignored him he threw his toys out of the pram 'big time' right in front of us.
It was the 2nd best highlight of the game just behind Lamela's nutmeg

Exactly my thoughts too. Granted before the board went up I think there had been 3 subs and a goal celebration, but I think the rest was due to their constant injuries and timewasting, which in the end they should punished for, and as mentioned in the post previous, ended up benefitting them by giving them extra minutes to snatch an equaliser

Yes that was hilarious. Delaney was not happy at all! He then seems to have been further tinkled off at having to walk around Lamela who had the temerity to be trying to take the corner he should have been able to take minutes earlier. Sweet desserts when Victor's header went in.

Overall pleased with yesterday. Getting the 3 points was obviously enormously important. It was not the most scintillating display but nothing too concerning. It just felt that we needed a 'bit more' of everything. A bit more forward movement, a bit more width (especially down the right), a bit more composure in front of goal. Palace really did very little. Vorm was not particularly troubled but what he had to do, he did well. Good performances from the back four. Jan and Toby both looking good. Lamela seemed to be everywhere. I was initially unsure about Kane starting further back but he looked comfortable and linked up quite well with Janssen. Janssen was tireless, looks very promising indeed- I think he will quickly become a crowd favourite. Wanyama is strong! I didn't think Dier looked quite his usual self although he did not do anything wrong that I can recall. The disappointment was Eriksen. Again, not especially bad (although there were a couple of poor passing decisions) but I think the expectations on him to perform are so high that when he falls short it is more apparent than with anyone else.
A good result to set us up nicely for next week. COYS!
