OMT Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea, WHL, Sat 28 Sept

Haven't read through this thread but Townsend has been excellent again, hopefully no-ones been ****ging him off again for no apparent reason?

I'd bring Sandro on for Dembele.

loving Townsends attacking down the left, wouldnt actually mind him shooting every now and then. Paulinhos late runs are a dream, we've missed that. Best Vertonghen game i've seen in agessss!

Agree about Paulinho. Add a lot to our threat

Very good first half for Spurs, but I would be a lot happier if we were two goals up.

Chelsea look dangerous, as you would expect them to be.

Townsend is doing so well when he gets on the ball BUT he needs to get him self in the game even more by improving on his off the ball positioning and movement so the other players can pick him.

Best half by Townsend I have seen he plays much smarter this game and actually passes to players in better position.

Great performance. Very controlled and good balance between defence and attack.

Just need to avoid a Chelsea goal in the next 10 mins….and keep the balance. If we are still ahead after 70 mins bring on Sandro and Chadli to flood the midfield with beasts and game over.

Best half by Townsend I have seen he plays much smarter this game ons actually passes to pleyers in better position.

Yeah his decision making has been great and some silky passing. Also good effort to win the ball a few times.

I'd say that was a fairly even half with us just looking slightly more dangerous inside the final third. We really need to find a way to get soldado into games still, he's putting himself about but we struggle to pick his runs out around the box. Paulinho and Dembele started out well but they lost control as the half wore on which I put down to Chelsea increasing pressure by closing down as they play so narrow at times. Lot's of positives and I still think we'll win this 2-0.

Phew. Very good first half, looking fluid and full of movement without compromising our back line. Great determination by Siggy to bundle that home, and superb build-up play by Eriksen, that shimmy around his marker was magical to watch.

Townsend, Paulinho, Siggy, Eriksen, Dembele and Walker all having good games, with Walker's outrageous flick and Townsend's nutmeg passes to Paulinho the highlights for me .

A few nitpicks: Chelsea looked steadily more dangerous as the half wore on, that long diagonal they played behind Daws and Verts has caught us out a couple of times and Hazard's drifting is leading to an overload on Naughton's side of the field. We can't do much about the first beyond look to put the game to bed as early as possible in the next 45, but the other two can be dealt with by bringing Sandro on to dominate the area directly in front of the CBs with his aerial ability and recovery tackles, which I feel we will need as the game wears on, Dembele and Paulinho begin to tire and Oscar begins to exert a greater influence on proceedings. There were signs of that as the half drew to a close.

Overall though, a great first half. Please, please let us keep going that way when we emerge for the next 45.
