We haven't been able to control the midfield in the first place to make those kinds of passes.

And this is the area that most needs an upgrade. We don't have a top class CM (sorry Bedford but we really don't). We don't have someone that you know is going to dominate the midfield and dictate play. We have lots of decent CMs who are good at different things, and on their day can be good but not consistently.....
