*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Watford ***

Good win if a mediocre performance. We need to be better although I'll take it. Dominated them without threatening them much because of our all too familiar inability to break down deep lying teams.

Skipp was very good particularly first half. Sanchez did well all game as did Dier I thought. Hojbjerg was alright given the stick he takes I thought.
We got away with one on the pen. Looked a foul on the replay but I'm still not sure.
Thought Son was dogbrick but not only was the cross for the goal great, he did brilliantly to win the free kick in the first place.

Take the points and move on. We're a long way from where we want to be. Conte has improved things but is papering over the cracks a bit. January important from a transfer perspective and because games against Cheatski and Woolwich will give us a much better idea of where we really are.
Maybe got away with it, they got away with 2

Hopefully Conte can see it too and it will get addressed in this month. This squad wont win a trophy without class additions
I hope so too, still think 3-5-2 suits us better but despite what I thought was one of our more fluid performances against Liverpool it seems there is a deep mistrust of the players we have who can use the ball.

I just came to post the same. We got a bit lucky today I thought. Simply can’t keep picking that setup against weaker oppo. 7 defensive players out of 10 outfield (and I won’t hear that the wing backs are attacking players - they simply are not in the league that is required in modern day football if you want that from them).

I called it from the start. Knew our midfield pairing was a bad choice. We got away with it but really against lower end teams we need a bolder approach, we need to be getting at them, not fielding players more comfortable sat back.

I think he will see that
But he maybe wants CM that he is happy with
Right now it looks like he has 3 he will play out of the ones we own

We seem to continually do things I don't see other teams do, trying shots from 25/30 yards when there's a defender a yard away and hitting our own players with shots as well. We're like the Keystone cops sometimes.

3-5-2 works is we have a supply wide, a creative CM and another striker in case someone is playing like son (sissokos levels of control currently)

The former you’ve described there is what today’s team is for. Against today’s oppo it needs to look a lot different imo.
That was my point as was referring to the poster referring to the next game, which is Chelsea. I agree we need to have a more progressive team from the off in these games and in the case of Southampton certainly on the hour mark after withstanding their early press and reduction to 10 men - or any occasion when we start with this approach and it’s obviously not working. Can always bring on the safety net of a defensive midfielder when ahead and the counter opens up as teams chase the game too.
