*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v The Cottagers ***

This was a terrible decision, he’s been whinging all season about not having fit central defenders and when he has them he doesn’t use them.We have an international break. If Ange has so little faith in his players fitness for a game which is in April then that shocking.
VDV isn’t even in the Dutch squad so has plenty of recuperation time over the next two weeks.

It’s a terrible decision at 0-0 to play with no centre halves given what an absolute shambles we are defensively and one which cost us the game
'play with no centre halves'. That has been Davies' position this season. Gray has also played most of his games there.

The league doesn't matter a jot for us any more this season. We're basically fighting for 11th to 17th place. Who cares where we finish out of those possible positions?

All that matters is the Europa. Perfectly sensible to take Romero off when he did and also for him to not risk VDV today, especially as both played on Thursday.

They only got promoted to the premier league last season. They have 10 points more than us this season on a fraction of the budget.

If that is poor wtf are we?
They got promoted 3 seasons ago (21-22) mate. I get your point however.

I will say though that I wouldn't fancy Iraola to do any better at a Spurs team also playing Europa league than Ange has. Like Ange, his gameplan is about high intensity and outrunning the opposition and it seems that just cannot be sustained when playing this many games.

I’m with you but I keep on getting told I’m wrong

I gave up earlier. Some can see what the priority is and the management of players around that. Others think they should be getting burnt into the ground again even though they’re just back.

Like somebody said earlier - probably the same people moaning that they were overplayed and the same people that will moan when they are unavailable for the Q final due to injury.

Am i losing years now. Thought parker got sacked last season?

Tie flies when you don't give a fudge.

While Iraola's Bournemouth play a pressing game with a focus on quick transitions, he tends to be a bit more pragmatic and flexible in his tactical approach, depending on the match/opponent.

Like most modern managers who play a pressing game it can be demanding (like Pochettinos was initially) but its nowhere near as intense as Postecoglou's more continuous pressing game.

Bournemouth rely a lot more than us on counter-attacking, which obviously allows for more managing of the pressing intensity than we see under Postecoglou who doesn't even want the team slacking off 5 minutes before half time in a friendly match...

The team has to be intelligent enough to know when to press and do so as a unit. Constant press over 90 odd minutes can't be done.
But it is transitioning ball from defence to attack wuickly that i want to see.

fudge 70% possession. I want shots. Goals. If that takes 2 passes instead of 20 great.

We press a lot but don't do it well. The players are starting too far away from their opponent when they go to press. Just burning ourselves out with most of the pressing.

I don't recall seeing Bournemouth defenders sprinting back to their goal when the ball is played behind their line. It appears far more controlled. They are well covered by their DMs.That may be indicated by the number of appearances made by Zabarnyi and Huijsen this season compared to our main CBs.

B'mth showed us exactly how to press effectively:

- anticipate when your opponent is about to receive the ball
- set off as soon as the ball is on its way to him
- charge at him full throttle, knock him over and concede the fk if need be

At the very least you've broken up the play but more likely you've left him on the floor, won possession and launched a counter-attack.

Voila!

Is it likely that we will win a trophy if we lose all of our remaining League games? Although the two are not directly correlated, gaining momentum through winning games in the PL will help us to prepare for the crucial Europa League games.
Yeah we are not winning the Europa league with this sh** show of form in the PL. If Ange thinks he'll keep his job by winning the EL wile finishing in one of our worst ever league positions he's got another thing coming. For the fans, a trophy is nice. For the club and PSR, finishing in the bottom half of the league will represent a HUGE financial hit from finishing 5th the season before. PL prize money now is worth more than the CL.

It’s possible we can win a trophy, yes
The league form has no real bearing on that other than keeper the players fit
Playing in Europe hurts league form, rather than benefits it so it makes sense to use one to help the other
Pool today look so tired. They haven’t looked like that all season, big mid week they had their hardest game of the season. That’s a team with minimal injuries and a string conservative way of playing
Arsenal and Chelsea also limped today (haven’t seen the game)
So if we want to give the Europe our best shot and we can’t affect the league position significantly, it makes sense to do we’re doing
