*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Sporting CP ***

I don’t think that is true. They are told to keep their flag down until the phase of play is finished. If they think it is offside then they raise their flag after (e.g) the goal is scored or the shot saved/missed.

yeah, but maybe he made a mistake and forgot to put the flag up

it's just different negatives, remember the Mendes goal at old trafford, Verts having a goal chalked off for offside when he was in his own half when the ball was played

as long as the decision accuracy rate is up on pre VAR it's worth it
It’s not up
It’s no better
They had an accuracy of 98.8% with offside pre var
They can’t evidence any improvement now due to the frame rate issue and the randomness of the lines

VAR will never be perfect though. So what's the point in wasting all that time, taking away the emotion of scoring a goal and all the other negatives it brings?
Goal line technology works perfect. I'm sure they could put a tracker on each players chest and that would show immediately and without doubt whether someone is offside. Leave VAR solely for red card offences the ref has missed.

‘Technically’ you are sure this frame is exactly when the ball departed Royals head? You can’t even see the ball properly let alone make assurances that this was ‘technically’ correct.
The frame rate is approximately 15 CMs out with the speed in the ball or a player, so 2/3rds of s football for arguments sake

how was the pre VAR offside accuracy worked out without the camera's to analyse them?

Chests is rarely the part furthest forward
Issue is they are trying to get 100% accuracy with no way of knowing…
So why bother and not accept human error

Posted in the Gil thread but it also quashes the idea that we were creating much prior to the equaliser

After the game they analysed this in minutae
Lost results
Hence why the reduced the data
There was a great documentary on it on sky sports a few years back with Neville and carragher
They were stunned at how accurate linos were and how poor they were when they had a gon

We were huffing a puffing
It’s hard to charter when players can’t control a ball
I’ll say that Maura was poor but he looked much better at wing back

I agree - the only option is to take humans out of it completely. A chip in players boots, a chip in the ball. Let the computers rule on offsides and whether the ball is in play, then the referee and assistants can focus on fouls and other things.

We were ratcheting it up anyway, but Gil did add what we needed: someone who can dance around a defender, disrupt and make space. We miss that through the team. Even Son and Moura aren't really these types of players. Our WBs aren't either. So it means we rely on passing and movement. It is something we need a bit more of. Kulu and Gil aside we are lacking players who can open a bit of space with some deft touches.

ultimately this is what will happen

then in time we’ll remove humans from the pitch too

the law is pretty badly written now, they should take the deflection off an opponent bit out

it's ridiculous that there is distinction between a block and a pass

I stand corrected. Spoke with the referee supervisor in my region today, and the ball played backwards rule has been removed. He couldn't say exactly when, but it's quite a while ago. So, playing the ball Backwards has no effect on whether it's offside or not, player has to be behind the ball if he's in front of the 2nd last defender.

Yeah, and a green light going off behind the goal if we have a good goal. The var check of every goddamned goal zaps the joy out of scoring goals. I generally don't celebrate goals anymore, as you never know what could chalk it off. fudging annoying, and honestly makes watching football a lot less appealing to me.
