*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Burnley ***

Watched the review on MOTD2. Decent praise but that last comment from Murphy.

As alluded to yesterday, victims, only one point ahead on the same games played, beat Sheffield United and are back in the race for Top 4. Yet Tottenham have to go on "a hell of a run" to reach the Top 4.

Bad maths or just bias?

Feels like since the Chelsea game we’ve been building up to this. From an attacking perspective we’ve been much better, but defensively still not quite getting it right. But the confidence will return and to have Bale back on song in the Spurs shirt is a thing of beauty.
Dele will continue his comeback I have no doubt. Many reasons to be positive going into the end of the season
Absolutely. Been some real positive signs in terms of performances building up to this. At the same time though it shouldn't be overlooked that the early goal(s) massively influenced the game in several ways and Burnley were ultimately rather poor on the day, not helped by missing players.

Feels to me like we must build on this and find consistency and build confidence. The pressure is very much still on and with the fixture list being as it is we probably have to rotate a bit.

Couldn't have gone much better on the day though. Can't have any complaints about what the lads did. Just need them to keep doing that.

I guess it's the expectation that victims having "turned the corner" will go on a run whereas that would be unexpected for us.

If those expectations are fair or not is another matter though.

Bias
Natural bias, but bias none the less
To be expected IMO
And they play Chelsea next too so we win out game and whatever happens in that one helps us
Out fixtures give us a chance to go on that run as he called it
Im not convinced we will get over the line but I can see a good run coming up for sure

What we need is for us to come back from going a goal down. This team seems to lose everytime we give up the first goal. Would love to see us losing at half time and for us to turn it around in the second half. Think it will do wonders for our belief

I'd prefer to see a few clean sheets with comfortable wins to be honest

Good clear wins against Fulham and Palace please, the Spurs that used to qualify for top 4 had a really good record against the dross

It has been said already, but that match was easily the most relaxed I have been watching Spurs for a long time. The enjoyment of watching our team playing decent attacking football has been missing for too long, for me at least. With Mourinho's newfound commitment to winning matches rather than to 'not losing' matches things are looking up. Attack is the best form of defence for this lot.

Chuffed that Bale is turning around the narrative developing around his move with a few excellent performances.

Hopefully the result was not just against a poor team and a one off. Really need to kick on and who knows with Bale looking lively and Ali getting back to some sort of decent form the season looks far from over. Despite the poor form we are still in touching distance of top four and in with a shout in the Europa.

Wouldnt it just be a dream to see Bale score the winners in the League cup final and Europa Cup final.

I think that may be more chicken and egg in relation to our performances v top half teams - the games we have fallen behind in i suspect are all against our peers/rivals for the top places - read something recently that said we haven't beaten a team that were in the top half when we played them* and for us to have a good run in that's the obvious area for improvement.

There's a 5 game run of fixtures which lead in to the LC final that includes Villa, Arsenal, Everton and United - come through that well then some questions will have been answered

*obviously we've still beaten City & United but when both were out of sorts and low in the league

2 X Wolfsberger AC, West Ham (even as loss) and Burnley at least indicate a trend, 13 goals in 4 games, 3 conceded, much more attacking play.

To your last point, if we win either or both of those cups, Bale will be part of the reason

This place is such a dead zone after a win, West Ham thread was 43+ pages (and that was a "decent performance" loss)

@thfcsteff since you like the mental analysis side of the conversation, why is that? why is misery so much more vocal?

You thought that the West Ham game was a decent performance/loss, others disagreed - and disagreement is what leads to longer discussions. Hence a longer thread. A good win and performance in a game we're expected to win isn't going to create much converststion.

- We were good wasn't we?
- Yep.

Smallest match threads are always the ones where we beat the smaller teams in the lower half of the table.

Also less daggers out for the team and Mourinho when we win. The myopics are busy sharpening their blades. The "i told you so's" swallowing it up a little. All makes for a bit of peace with less knee-jerking, long-winded unbalanced ranting.

Yeah absolutely, always prefer clean sheets, but to show the mettle to come back when going a goal down does wonders for belief I think. To stay calm, knowing we can turn this around. Something I felt during peak Poch years, even going a goal down didn't mean we wouldn't win.

Of course that is what's ultimately being hinted at here - but there's no need to kick a man when he's had a good result and having us play the way we want us to.
