*** OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v AZ - 6.3.25 ***

lol - but not a tough call to elevate Gray to first choice centre midfield before he's actually played there for Spurs?

That is a massive call. Way bigger than Berg vs Bents.

Ange is just afraid to use him there because he knows that once he's unleashed, Madrid and PSG will throw the big £1/4b at us for him. So he's keeping him under wraps till after the summer window closes.

Vicario
Spence...Gray (VdV/Romero)...Danso...Udogie
Sarr...Bentancur
Johnson...Kulusevski...Odobert
Son (Solanke)
Players in brackets if they are fit to start. Bolded players appeared to be rested against City for this match.

Strong bench (even stronger if others are back):
Porro
Bergvall
Tel
Maddison
Bissouma
Austin
Scarlett

COYS!

I've forgotten the EL excluded players already. Wasn't Werner one of them?

Yeah

Spence, Danso and Tel in

Forster, Werner and Dragusin out

So Kinsky isn't involved either, Whitman and Austin will be in the bench.

Would have Bergvall over Sarr. Sarr hasn't been great when used recently.

It's gonna be interesting watching Ange's choices in the next couple of weeks. He could get tactics wrong but I'm not sure he could really get the team selection wrong if he stays with his 16-18 core of available players. I guess what will be top of mind for him is the "planned" subs and managing the 90 mins. I think it is OK to have a couple of planned subs, but no more. That leaves the other 3 subs for tactical reasons.

I think we're at the point where the bench should be able to deal with winning or losing positions.

We'll beat AZ over 180 mins. No doubt in my mind.

Playing away first at a very close place will help too
We then go into a Sunday game at home then the return home leg 4 days afterwards then into the International break
We should 100% have plenty of mentally and physically rested players back now

This is the dream:
4 full backs who are all absolutely fine. We're nearly there with 3.
4 centre backs who are all absolutely fine. Nearly there.
4 deeper midfielders who are much of a muchness. Nearly there.
2 left forwards who are much of a muchness. Nearly there.
Etc.
This is the dream, where nobody gives a damn about the starting eleven because nobody is a weak link.

Solanke, VDV and Romero all pictured in training today

And there’s YouTube video of training with them all featuring. Seems like VDV isn’t out all season like the doubters had suggested. I doubt all will start on Thursday, if any, as I feel that we will take advantage of there being the home second leg and not rush players back needlessly. It would be good to see them get minutes though if they are fully fit.

Hope to see a performance similar to the second half against City. Should hopefully be getting a good mix of both way fresher legs than had some weeks back, some players back getting closer to match fitness, a bench and a chance for Ange to make actual decisions on who plays based on tactics and form. Maybe even some more players back from injury.

Difficult to predict a lineup, but should have several potential lineups that can do well for this game.

For me its probably our cup final team.

It's tough to call between Bergvall and Bentancur - Bergvall is devloping at such a rapid rate, whereas Bentancur has the experience.

And no one really stands out in the RWF role (it's the biggest weakness in our starting 11 by a mile; my suggestion is obviously forcing Tel onto his wrong side).
It's going to be Bergvall and Bentancur. What's up for grabs is the other midfield spot.
