OMT ** Tottenham Hotspur v AZ 13.03.2025 **

Questions:

1 Does anyone have faith that we will go through? If so, how will we tactically from what has been seen in our recent games, particularly the game last week?
2 How much will we miss Danso? Do AZ have big aerial threats?
3 IF we do lose, would any of you fire Ange during the international break?

Questions:

1 Does anyone have faith that we will go through? If so, how will we tactically from what has been seen in our recent games, particularly the game last week?
2 How much will we miss Danso? Do AZ have big aerial threats?
3 IF we do lose, would any of you fire Ange during the international break?

1. Not really no, don't see us changing much if anything tactically
2. Lots, particularly if we intend on playing Romero/VDV now because of that, which feels like a lottery at this point
3. Oh yes

Watched the highlights of the Bournemouth goa. I'm sorry but that first goal we conceded, if we're gonna break with Porro somehow in the #10 position then there has to be some sort of cover for him. As noted Biss is over the left in front of Spence, and Sarr and Bentancur are also over the left side pushing forward.
It's like our system is designed on everything going well with no consideration for if things break down.

As bad as the pass is, I don't think Johnson really helps him, he's no shaping up like he wants it played into space or that he's coming shorter. I don't see it as such an easy pass as others have made out.

Tottenham Squad Update & Fitness Concerns

  • Kevin Danso sustained a hamstring injury in the last game and will be unavailable.
  • Ben Davies is back in the squad, which is the only change from the previous match.
  • Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are both available after recovering well from their previous appearances.

Match Importance & Expectations

  • The upcoming match is being framed as a "win or bust" situation for Tottenham’s season and potentially for the manager’s tenure.
  • The coach, Ange Postecoglou, acknowledges the high stakes but remains focused on delivering a better performance than in the first leg.

Pressure & Response

  • Despite being favorites for the competition since its inception, Postecoglou denies feeling any "extra pressure" beyond normal expectations.
  • He emphasizes the importance of home advantage and believes if Tottenham replicates their recent high-intensity performances, they have a strong chance to progress.

Reliance on Experienced Players

  • Youth players like Jamie Donley and Mikey Moore have stepped up, but the manager highlights the importance of experienced figures like Romero, James Maddison, Heung-Min Son, and Guglielmo Vicario.
  • He notes that having all four of these leaders on the pitch at the same time has been rare this season, making their presence crucial for the upcoming match.

Winning Mentality & Previous Statements

  • When asked about his previous statement about winning trophies in the second season at a club, Postecoglou clarifies that he was simply stating a fact based on his past experiences.
  • He acknowledges that if Tottenham does not win a trophy this season, the statement would no longer apply moving forward.

Further Injury Updates

  • Kevin Danso’s hamstring injury is still being assessed, but the international break might provide him with time to recover.
  • Richarlison is progressing in his rehab and is expected to return post-international break.

Pape Matar Sarr & Ramadan Observance

  • Postecoglou praises Pape Matar Sarr for his performances despite fasting during Ramadan.
  • He also mentions that Jed Spence is observing Ramadan, emphasizing the club’s respect and support for players practicing their faith.

Tactical Approach for the Game

  • The first leg saw Tottenham struggle due to a lack of intensity.
  • The manager has reviewed and analyzed the issues and believes the team needs to maintain high intensity for the full game.
  • He insists that being one goal down does not change the overall strategy, as the team always aims to dominate and win matches.

Handling Pressure & Fan Support

  • Postecoglou acknowledges the high-pressure nature of the match but believes it's part of European competition.
  • He stresses the importance of home support, citing past home games against Liverpool and Emirates Marketing Project as examples of how fans can create a strong atmosphere.
  • The focus remains on playing with their usual aggressive, dominant style rather than reacting to the scoreline.

Troy Parrott’s Development

  • Discussing Troy Parrott, the coach is pleased with his progress on loan.
  • He highlights Parrott’s improvement in playing as a number nine, noting his goal-scoring ability, link-up play, and hard work on and off the ball.

Final Thoughts

  • Postecoglou remains confident in his team’s ability to turn the tie around.
  • He trusts his experienced players to step up and is optimistic about Tottenham's ability to rise to the occasion in the crucial match.

I missed that, Didn't realise both Spence and Sarr are observing ramadan. I have zero experience but I assume evening games are easier to deal with as the sun has already set and they can eat and fuel up ahead of the game.

    • Now that players are returning, the team must step up and deliver stronger performances.
  7. Spurs’ Trophy Drought
    • There is talk about Spurs not winning a trophy in 17 years.
    • While aware of this, Vicario insists the focus is on taking things one game at a time—starting with the upcoming match.
