*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa FC ***

I've no problem with rotating. Who do you rotate dragusin with though? (He was the one people wanted rested).
Ah. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I don't think Dragusin or Davies are in need for rotation as such. It would more be not playing them to not risk an injury that would leave us really short there come the weekend (if that's a distinction that makes sense). Unlike some of those I mentioned who I think are in need for rotation.

I guess the options would be Dorrington, Gray (but we'll need him at full back) or one of the midfielders like Bentancur (but they will be needed in midfield and/or need rotation themselves).

So... Dorrington would be the option? Think we'll probably go with Dragusin and Davies personally.

They don't, they actually need more game time, rhythm. The team is in a good run, I hope Ange goes as strong as reasonably allowable midweek.

Re Villa, another important win, showed up ability to adapt in game, some learning from the Palace game to deal with the stop/start, dealt with a very strong midfield, pressured them into mistakes.

All the Ange doubters seem sated for the time being?
I really like Ange, I like his attacking philosophy. But I am also a realist, football is a competitive sport and it's about winning (though not at any cost like Arsenal).

Yesterday was great, we blew Villa away in the second half like we did West Ham a couple of weeks ago. We also finally beat a team above us in the table this season. Do that consistently and improve our away form and fans will love him. Yes we need to be patient but Ange will know he has to improve results in those 2 areas to keep his job.

Given the progress we are making, I think he will be fine at least until the end of the season. There's a small part of me that wonders if we can nick a trophy too. Yes we all get emotional when results don't go out way. That's part of being a fan. But whatever happens, while he is Spurs I will support him.

We're on course for 61 points this season in the pl. It's not a good start. We've played great at times but also shocking.

There maybe improvement. We'll see.
Based on the results, yes, but based on the performances we're on course for much more than that. Over the course of an entire season results will better match up with the performances, so I expect we will be somewhere around the 70 point mark.

outside of City & Pool, nobody has had a great start points wise, so the 61 points needs to be in that context?

shocking is a little OTT? Palace was poor, 2nd half against Brighton poor, outside of that? bit messy in some of the heavily rotated cup games?

again, I've watched most team play, don't think anyone is balling it, and actually think stats/eyeball view says we are doing ok.

You are one of the few posters I've ever seen suggest Bentancur could do a turn at centre half. I've said the same thing myself.

The forgotten man at the moment seems to be Bergval. I wonder if we could get him more involved rotating with Sarr and Bissouma, whilst utilising Bents as both a centre half and centre mid.

Agreed. Think both xG numbers and the eye test points towards us having performed at least somewhat better than the points total would indicate.

Even more importantly I think we're showing good signs of improvement.

Bentancur would be an emergency solution, but not the worst emergency solution to have.

I have at least some hope that as Bergvall, Gray and Moore have the group stages of the EL in their legs, have had half a season to settle in and adjust and gained a little bit of experience we may see more of an impact from one or two of them in the league in the second half of the season.

Assuming we progress in the EL we'll have some biggish games where quite a lot will be riding on them in the EL in the second half of the season. We'll need that squad to be able to compete in all competitions.

Bleeping GREAT comeback and GREAT turnaround by the players.
Villa and Emery are no mugs and it was great to see them win resoundingly in the end against a team above us.
Long may we play with similar sharpness in that second half.
That Solanke first goal....ooohhhhhh

Obviously - but our stats are showing that we are better than where we currently sit in the league and over the course of the season it evens itself out.

They spoke about it on Monday Night Football last night and put up the stats. They compared us after 10 games last season to this. They showed the xG for and against, and then a final metric I can't remember what its called maybe Expected points or something but the metric is a very good indicator of where you finish in the league.

The point being after ten games last season when we was top of the league, our Expected Goals for and against were almost identical to what they are after ten games this season (being ranked 1st or 2nd in them for last season). However, the Expected points (or whatever it was called) had us as 7th, telling us that how we was performing wasn't going to be sustained and thats exactly what happened. Whereas this season after 10 games? We are in 3rd place for the same metric.....

I hope so. Just wary of our fans going from one extreme to the other. A week ago things looked very different.

We'll see how the rest of the season pans out.
