***OMT - Spurs vs Liverpool***

They got in behind again and again.

Liverpool were always going to play 433. Poch knew 343 would have been a disaster against them.


Maybe we should have played long balls from the back to Kane and Alli. Maybe even Janssen would have been an option here.

For me, one of the reasons there was no passes was because be wanting to pass it across the back or have time on tge ball we allowed Liverpool to cut those passing angles off.

Cech has "-21" for "Attack".
Caballero has "-4" for "Defence" but has only played 5 games.

What does any of it mean?

If you want to look at possession stats for Keepers look at pass success percentage on opta.
But even that is flawed as what you really want to see is how good a keeper is at retaining possession under pressure not when there no player in the same half of the pitch as him.
There's no stat for that.

I don't have any problem with people using their eyes but data can be helpful too. The claim was that Lloris is poor in possession, that's clearly not true.

Would agree with this, i have never believed that a Captain should play in goal and would be so far away from most of the action to make any difference.
 
We did not play well yesterday at all ( probably our worst performance of the season) but i really have to chuckle at some comments i have heard after the game. The result does not surprise me at all and i would have been happy with a point, there are several reasons ( apart from us not really turning up) (1) Liverpool are not a brick team like some of our supporters like to make out/suggest they like us are still growing as a team (2) we are not as good a team as some make out ( usually the same supporters who think Liverpool are brick) (3) we have a shocking record against Liverpool at Anfield ( i know because i have been at most of them) (4) We had two of our be<st players out in Jan and Rose and unfortuately we have no one in their class to replace them.

No matter what some fans say we are still a work in progress and we still have a way to go ( much like Liverpool) under Poch i believe we will get there.

(5) they wanted it ten times more than us. It was a game Klopp simply could not afford to lose so it was like he'd personally thrust a red hot poker up each and every one of his player's arses just before kick-off. :mad:
 
I think Lloris is fine at passing the ball when a team aren't aggressively pressing us. When he is put under a lot of pressure, he isn't great with the ball at his feet imo (but that's not really his job) and he can play team-mates into trouble in this scenario too.

Generally, we are good at building out from the back, but there are times when we need to just not do that. When City beat Barca in the Champions League this season, they played much more direct from the back. 99% of the time they don't do that, but they made an exception. We should make some exceptions at times and that should be instructed by Poch.

He is talking about our speed on the ball when in possession. This is a prime example of how sometimes we need to be brave and play Winks instead of either Moose or Victor. Both are royal players, but against sides like Liverpool you need to move the ball quickly when you have it. Which Winks does. And he does not lose possession. Also, we had no fit first-choice left-sided players! This was a mASSIVE issue!

I agree. If everyone is on their game, then pushing up is not a problem and would be an asset. Dropping deep just gives Liverpool more room to play and we do not have the players to play on the break.
 
I expected us to lose this game, so I'm not to bothered with that. I am, however, furious with the way we lost! Not showing up for a game like that and just surrender from the kick off is just not acceptable!

We didn't turn up and almost cantered through the defeat

really its not winning away at places like Bournemouth and Sunderland that are our downfall.There is nothig between 2-6th but it seems that we are usually the team that ends up losing out in these circumstances.The Liverpool game was a time to park the bus and not let Liverpool get 3 points.

I remember when i was worried about how we would cope near the end of the season with multiple games plus our tough training regime plus pressing.
Imagine that twice in recent weeks we have had whole weeks to prepare for two big blockbuster away games....and produce frankly shocking performances (even if we were lucky/heroic to salvage a draw vs City)...i mean what the hell is going on with that??

Indeed; a bit worrying in that i can't remember when it was that we only had 4 away league wins by this stage of a PL season....
 
It's not all doom and gloom though. We've played 2/3 of the season and we've only lost 3 times. The worrying thing is that our 2 worst performances have come away to Manure and Liverpoo. Looking ahead, if we can keep going like we have, we should target 80 points. 9 wins, 1 loss and 3 draws from the remaining 13 fixtures should be doable, and would see us and up with a record 80 points. Should be enough for 2nd/3rd.
