We could change the style we set up with, that might help

maybe, but if we've spent 6 weeks working on it that would be a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to a one goal defeat against a good side when the majority of our players had a bad game

it was bad, but we've been a lot worse in this calendar year

Did anyone else find it a little bit funny that every change of shape or tactical innovation we had was to just move Sissoko into a different position!

Started AMR, then went MC, then RB.

We’re lucky he’s as versatile as he is talented. Ahem.

Most of the fans wanting Toby gone moaned when we stalled on a contract. Can't have it both ways

feck the fans, they know sweet feck all about nothing. the club's management calls all the shots and we just quibble around the edges. We lack direction Toby and Yan are a good examples

Really wanted us to have gone in for Abdoulaye Doucoure. Big upgrade on Sissoko. Good buy for Everton. This is the secret to success, of course, buy well. Lo Celso aside none of our recent buys have amounted to much. I am hoping we will see the best of Bergwyn (sic) and Fernandes this season. Not sure about holjbjerg yet. But after 1 game I already feel depressed. We cannot be so reliant on Lo celso for creativity.

That was shambolic. No one comes out with any credit imo. We had zero creativity and hardly threatened Everton. We have three wingers that can't beat their man and set up chances. A midfield which is slow, laboured and unable to find a killer pass. A slow defense with Dier and Toby ( who once again couldn't get off the ground to stop the goal). Davies had a shocker and his distribution was dire.

120 million spent and although Lo Celso didn't start, looks largely wasted money.

Can anyone explain why our head of recruitment has just been promoted?.

He, and his whole team of so called scouts, should be sacked - as our recruitment has been almost universally dreadful for several years now.

I think that pretty much everyone agrees it was a dreadful performance. Unfortunately, Mourinho's style makes his teams extremely painful to watch when there's no pay-off (a win) at the end of the game.

What puzzles me is why he felt it necessary to introduce Sissoko at half-time. They had the best chance of the first half but despite our complete lack of creativity, we still managed to test Pickford on a couple of occasions. What was Sissoko supposed to add to the team? He's powerful (sort of) but they weren't really bullying us. He's not strong enough defensively to neutralise someone like Rodriguez. He's a bit of an all-rounder, a guy you might find useful when a more important player is missing for a game or two, but I really never saw him as a guy you could bring in a half-time in a tight match to make a difference.

Guess I was right, judging by today's 'performance'...

It was a really odd sub
And one that made no sense

I was all for bringing him on, but not for Alli, I felt we needed a bit more pace going backwards and that Winks wasn't being aggressive enough, Sissoko is capable of the same sideways passes but also a maraud, Everton's shape left a lot of room to progress into which we didn't attack.

Of all the teams that played this weekend were bottom of all the defensive stats... and Everton didn’t make Hugo work much at all. It was timid and weak. I assume we brought on sissoko for that aggression Jose wanted but he didn’t show it (no one did)

I noticed weird something with Son today. Before I honestly could not tell if he was right- or left-footed. He banged them in from all angels and distances with either foot. Today he seemed to always want to shift it to his right foot. There were a couple of times where he could have just smacked it with he left, but he stopped, and shifted it to his right, and the chance was gone. Almost like he had an issue with his left, and didn't want to use it.
