Yeh, I'm happy they quickly moved off the supernatural path and it now looks like a much more logical set of murders or incidentsI've really enjoyed True Detective so far, finale this weekend I think? really looking forward to it.
I can't remember the storyline for the third series but they all seem to start off on that path right? I like the idea that the remote nature of the setting with the long night makes supernatural things more believable as those conditions will play games with your mind.Yeh, I'm happy they quickly moved off the supernatural path and it now looks like a much more logical set of murders or incidents

Funnily enough I finished watching the 1st two seasons like a week ago.
Easy to see why S1 is up there in the best TV series lists. The manner of telling the story through the different time periods was seamless and the chemistry between Harrelson and McConaughey was incredible.
Amazing to think of one dude for was a standard sitcom nice guy in Cheers and that dude from every bad romcom for around a decade came together to make something as awesome. Super dark in places and great setting to give the whole thing a swampy eerie edge. I hadn't realized each season was a self contained story but in this case it was a great thing as this was near enough perfect, without then wanting to overdo it.
S2 was interesting but obviously not quite on the same level. Sone moaned about his performance but I thought Vince Vaughan was excellent, he's got the presence and acting chops for it even if the writing was a little ott at times ie bear knuckle boxing dealers in basements without taking a scratch.
What is kind of funny in all these type of series is they always have to give the good guys vices, whether it's the bottle or cigarettes it's like everyone constantly has to be bladdered or chain smoking through each and every scene, I guess being tee total isn't cool enough for the protagonists?

I just realized I watched the series out of order, S3 was better than S2 imo, set in the Ozarks region it's similar to the first with the two protagonists being flawed characters trying to track down a child abduction and murder of 20 years.
Good to hear, I am looking forward to S3 but wanted a break from all the gruesome murders and whatnot for a while to watch something potentially uplifting / wholesome.
I'm not usually one to stereotype but if only anecdotally, so many of my female acquaintances are in to the shows / docs about serial killers, Dahmer and the likes, it's nice to watch some things that aren't about people (fictional or otherwise) being brutally dismembered.
@Grays_1890 What gets me is the notion that with McConaughey and Farrell in S2 they're absolutely rinsing the booze but are still either super lean or jacked. Lord knows I wish that was realistic!
Curb is absolutely excellent
True Detective....meh conclusion but I did enjoy it as a stand alone
Started watching True Detective yesterday and it doesn't come close to any of the previous seasons. Feels like they took a random script and slapped the label of an established franchise on it to lure in some viewers. As a stand alone production this would have been a complete dud.
There isn't no lineal reason to TD which means each season is almost stand alone right? I get its not as strong but Foster and Reis were strong, enjoyed their performance and the setting was a real win IMO.
I think the TD label actually works against it as people say "well its no season 1" but which season has been?
