Sorry but you can't remake the wonder years, a big part of the success of that programme was the times it was set in.
Even 20 years on the world was a totally different place.
They may make a programme in a similar vein, but its not the wonder years.
And i shudder to think what kind of music they will use as a backdrop.
It is a tough ask, I agree.

It's set in exactly the same year, but based around a black family and how they saw the world. Rest assured the music is very good. The first episode was ok (the pilot is only just over 20mins long) but there were good moments and it may just need to settle in?

It almost makes you think that they fatally burden themselves with the weight of a classic series when it may fly better if they just called it something else and then people made passing comparisons?

That actually sounds good. I didn't realise it was set at the same time, i thought it was a contemporary setting, i.e someone growing up in the 80s-90s looking back from now.
Done right it come be a very good juxtaposition of the original.
Will watch out for that.

I wanted to like Vigil but too much wrong with the plot, characters and tone for me to really enjoy it.

I'll recommend Squid Game on Netflix though.

Yeah, I enjoyed the first 5 eps, but the last one was all over the place, too much character back story, overcomplicated back story for one character as well

as for the ending,

what the fudge, the motivation of that guy was to get an embarrassing photo, he killed three people, attempted to kill two more, and released sarin on a submarine, which the Navy then didn't treat as an act of war, despite it being against the CWC, of which Russia is a signatory

Also, doesn't the Navy have it's own police/investigatory team that would handle something like this?

Yeah, it was toss. Procedurals need to be grounded in reality. I could cope with the alternative reality in which the royal naval police did not exist, and subs were huge airy spaces, and even with police scotland happily opening top secret stolen classified nuclear sub operational documents on their work computers in a non-secure space while thames house’s finest looked approvingly over their shoulders (just after terrorising cops in SUVs, which was odd too) but the convoluted rationale for the Russians was just ridiculous.

Hope that Squid Games is good. At least Succession is back soon. Now there’s proper writing.
