*** Official TV Thread ***

Intensely disappointing with so many negatives
Three seasons and the vast majority of a large cast/crew are hideously under developed to the point where you know nothing about half of them, including their names. Then the ones you do know are intolerably crap (yes I mean Tilly, shudder).

Lack of a decent captain (bar the episodes when Pike stood in)

Absolute untouchable Mary-Sue status of bloody Burnham. Why is it always about her!!!!

Only good character wasn’t in it much and has now left for her own spin off. (Not Burnham sadly).

And the crying. The bloody endless crying...

It's a bit old fashioned to have a "TV" thread, since that covers so many different services that many of us don't have.

I think we should split this thread into Amazon Prime, Netflix, Sky, Terrestrial UK, Other.

Because you lot keep saying how great some show is, without mentioning the platform, then I Google the show and find out it is on Sky or Prime and I don't have it.

For Marvel geeks like me, just finished Episode 5 of WandaVision. Wow.

I know it's weird AF at the beginning but it's such an incredibly well written and devised show, like totally different to anything else i've seen recently on TV and some of the easter eggs or hints being planned are just unreal.

If you gave up after episode 2, i really really pity you.

Really looking forward to this.
Introduced my wife to the Marvel films last autumn and we've been working our way through them all in order. Just got to Infinity War and then we moved house, so having to wait a little bit before I can start this. Excited!

I can't believe some people gave up on it after 2 episodes. Marvel are not DCEU, who rushed out films without building them from the ground up (and don't get me started on Suicide Squad, could have been so gooooood)...

out of the three major shows to be released, WandaVision, Winter Soldier/Falcon and Loki, this was the one i was least looking forward to and defintely had the biggest concerns based on the adverts i had seen. Been proven wrong, it's so different to anything else on the box, but yes definitely finish off the MCU first!

James Gunn's Suicide Squad film should be crazy fun though.

i nearly gave up on Wandavision myself after the first couple - if you went in cold not knowing *something* was coming i don't think there was much there to keep you interested but now having got to the reveal things are picking up it looks like it'll be a good show. Shame Disney do things week by week as id rather binge it, last night i watched all 5 with the GF as she hadn't seen 1&2

The Expanse - also incredible, another slow burner where I hadn’t fully locked in to what was going on, then suddenly realised, ‘this is awesome’. I went back and watched S1-4 just as 5 started. What I found with it is you have to stay engaged - not a scene or piece of information is wasted. So now, if I do get distracted or zone out a tad, or hear a name or planet and can’t place it, I’ll rewind and make sure I’ve locked fully into it. As it all pays off. Finished S5 last night. Just brilliant. Sad that S6 is the last, although apparently some hope they may pick up again later as there’s meant to be something in the books (no spoilers) where a gap isn’t a problem.

Bad news though, Star Trek Discovery is complete toss. So gutted as it should have been amazing and the premise for S3 should have made it the best. But oh my GHod did they fumble it. The whole thing is a bloody mess. They seem to have no clear idea of what they want it to be, the characters are completely unlikeable, and it’s a non stop snivelling tear fest. I’ll sit though most crap if I’m in invested but oh my lord I just want them all dead and for it to end!!!

You and I see the universe through similar eyes.

The Expanse is fabulous. And as you say, all the details matter. My wife and I began watching for the zero-G sex scenes, stayed for the magnetic boots in space and the Belters tattoos and patois. Shoreh Aghdashloo is magnificent - that incredible, fcuking voice! Great plot and great characters, amazing production. We, too, have just wrapped up season 5 and eagerly await more. Especially since many of the urban scenes are shot here in Toronto. Keen to read the books.

We have also enjoyed all the editions of Star Trek over the years and, in the midst of the third episode of the latest Discovery series, looked at each other and went WTF!? A load of wet mush. We're done with it.

Anyone watched Ballers?

Pretty entertaining look at life around the NFL. Yes, Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) can seem a bit of a caricature at first glance, but they flesh out his character nicely as the seasons roll on. It's not about game action but about the off field action in boardrooms and bedrooms. A lot of co-operation from the NFL itself and real-life players to create an authentic viewing experience.

Half-hour episodes that move quickly. Set in Miami and later L.A., there are some serious amounts of unclad eye candy on full display. Sex scenes with actual NFL players too. Shows America in all it's glory and griminess. My son and I are both natural viewers for it being NFL fans, but my wife comfortably got into it too. Five seasons and we're almost through the last one. No need for further seasons.

If they could do a version of this around the Premier League, it would be awesome.
