**Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

The ideology of Communism was something that would have worked well, if applied right but sadly the corrupt dictators put a stop to that happening. I don't see that as a dirty word like most westeners do so your question/insult has no effect on me.

Your first question is even more laughable than the communist one though:lol:

It would never have worked well because it is a political philosophy that fails utterly to appreciate that man is hardwired to be competitive.

just heard on the radio that if the goons and Chels finish on the same points and the GD is the same, then only a play off will decide who finishes 3rd and 4th

i think it can work on a small scale - i can't say im all too clued up on the subject but i have spoken with Israelis that i have met whilst travelling that live in these small agricultural towns (kibbutz??) and from how they described them it's not too dissimilar to how communism works

although im prepared to be put in my place with someone more knowledgeable on the subject :p

It will be lost because we finished 4th last season and 5th this season. Your clutching at straws if you really think finishing with higher points but finishing in a lower league position is bettering the previous season.

How's that clutching at straws ? It means the team performed better. At the end of the day the only thing the team can do is win in the games WE play. A higher points total means we did BETTER than last season game-by-game. It's a fact. Undeniable. League position takes into account how well other teams have done and is to an extent out of our hands. Beat Sunderland and we'll have had our best ever season in the Premiership era. The fact that 4 other teams might have had better seasons at the same time is unfortunate and actually something we have no control over.

except if we ....

nah forget it.

You're absolutely correct about that. It can work on a small scale in communes like kibbutzes - but crucially, only with willing volunteers. The vast majority of people aren't wired to operate like that. They feel utterly stifled by communism, thwarted in their aspirations and shorn of their individuality.

Consequently, communism can never function on a global scale other than when sustained by the kind of sinister coercion that has blighted every communist regime in history. And, by definition, any such regime bricks all over the ideals and philosophy behind communism. So much so that when communism "works" (or, at least, persists), it isn't communism at all.

I really don't get why people feel the need to criticise the club, I'm totally in the camp of an improved points total means improvement, and that we would be very unlucky that it wouldn't mean CL qualification.

What do people expect? Do you think we should be on 75? 80? Should we be challenging for second? The title? After losing 3 key players from last year? After employing a new manager and getting to grips with his different match preparation?

Because that is what you're saying. When you moan about the Fulham or Wigan result, you're basically saying we should be on almost 80 points. Of course we are better than them. Of course normally we should win. But it's football! brick happens. It's like people needing to moan about a manager's transfer record, like 'he's not that good in the transfer market, he signed X and X, see!' as if it proves some magical point! Of course not every player is going to be success, again, it's football, brick happens. You need to accept that and look at the bigger picture otherwise the criticism is just pointless. Of course Levy and AVB don't make every single decision perfectly, because they aren't perfect alien beings. They are human. So pointing out the small mistakes with such a sense of entitlement is just ridiculous when it isn't considered against the overall progress of the club.

We are on course for a record points total. If we were to have beaten Fulham, Wigan, Norwich and West Brom at home, we'd be second. Is that what people want? You are actually saying you expect to be above 3 clubs that have far bigger turnover than us. How can you possibly say that?

I was reading Norwich forums earlier and I couldn't believe it, there is a swell of opinion that Hughton may not be doing a very good job. He's kept that Norwich squad in the league for a second season for goodness sake! They'll point out 'yeah his negative style blah blah blah' as if it means anything. As if he is being compared to the perfect GHod-Manager that obviously exists. It's pointless!

my worry is exactly that this will be the end of it, that this will be a peak, that next season we won't even challenge 4th place let alone secure it

I think that this may well be what we see unfortunately.

Especially is our transfer dealings are conducted in the same way as the last few windows.

How is is "rubbish" btw? do you really think a better points total but finishing outside the top 4 is better than a 4th place finish?

Our home performances this season have generally been rather brick so i wouldn't be at all surprised if Saudi Sportswashing Machine somehow sneak a draw and we draw too. That's how i see things ending (or Gooners win by a landslide).

My opinion on that question is beside the point. The point is that if we finish with more points this season than last season we have, in one very clear factual sense, bettered last season by virtue of having more points. Now, I understand that there will then ensue the usual perspective discussions as to who considers what better. That's a whole other thing.

When the world is more developed it will work.

EDIT: Well, socialism will.
