I think I'm right that it directly hurts City as well because by not even getting in EL they don't earn any 'being in European competition points' or whatever to increase their seeding in the CL?

England might get overtaken by Germany, but are in no danger of dropping out of the top 3 (ie. the nations with 3 CL teams). Portugal look likely to overtake Italy after next season as they won't have to count their terrible 08/09 season any more. France and Italy to fight it out for 5th place. Countries 4 to 6 get 3 teams in the CL.

Hopefully the scum will get Barca, Dortmund or Bayern, but I'd feel confident about PSG or Juve playing them from our point of view.

Just goes to show how important it is to win the group.
Malaga the only kinda soft team in there, possibly PSG if they keep struggling to settle as a team can be fairly comfortable for them. The rest of the teams will be really difficult.

They will struggle against any of the group winners. They hardly cruised their group.
That said, over the years they have also shown they are capable of beating anyone on their day in this comp. but in not worried about them winning it, simply a lack of quality and experience.
Good to see Chelsea humbled, they didn't deserve to get past Barca in the semi or win the trophy against Bayern. Just a shame it's got to this stage for them to be found out, European champions maybe but it is a misleading title. Not even the fourth best team in their country.
