Anyone familiar with arbitrage betting ? Currently researching this and testing out some formulas but getting confused. Looking at an example of Brazil vs Columbia match. It has 3 outcomes Brazil/Columbia/Draw.
If you bet £47.61 on Paddy Power for Columbia to win it will return £214.25
If you then lay Columbia on betfair £20.41 @ 4.9 it will return £100.00
Meaning your total outlay would be £68.02 for a guaranteed minimum return of £100 ???
Can this be right ??!!

I thought arbitrage betting was backing all outcomes to guarantee profit? e.g Backing at higher odds than you are laying?
Going by your figures...
on Paddypower:
Colombia win = +£166.64
Colombia draw/lose = -£47.61
On Betfair:
Colombia win = -£80
Colombia draw/lose = +£20.41
Total:
Colombia win = +£86.64
Colombia draw/lose = -£27.20

If Colombia win you bank £214 from PP, minus the £20.41 you staked on BF
If Brazil win you bank £100 from BF minus the £47.61 you bet on PP
if the game is a draw you lose both bets
unless my very basic understanding of the word lay is wrong, which is quite possible. does it mean bet against - as in bet they will lose or simply that they will not win (including the draw)?

My understanding of lay is saying columbia will not win and therefore covering Brazil or the draw ?

The blue column are the odds you are getting, the pink column are the odds you are offering someone else.
You could back Colombia to win @ 4.8 so if you were to put £10 on then the following would happen...
Colombia win = You win £38
Colombia draw/lose = You lose £10
If you lay Colombia to win at 4.9, you are offering those odds to someone else so the following would happen.
Colombia win = You lose £39
Colombia draw/lose = You win £10
In short, if you were to lay Colombia to win at 4/1 you are getting odds of 1/4 that they won't win.

gotcha ok thanks. So therefore to do an arb you would need to cover all outcomes - Brazil/Columbia/Draw.
