O/T Manager Sack Watch

Personally I think Pulis is finished in the PL and possibly championship. Any chairman would know he would be risking a revolt from fans by appointing him. Stoke's football has been so so poor and its not as if they've done exceptionally well - why would anyone appoint him?

Blackburn have appointed Gary Bowyer as the club's permanent manager on a 12-month rolling contract.

Will definitely be sacked by the end of next season.

I hope he does well.

I posted it on here a couple of weeks ago as an ITK before changing my post when my sister texted me to say "you'd better not tell anyone as he's not actually signed the contract yet" (they're related through marriage).

I think he's ok:
Blackburn - did well; was highly regarded
Man C - did well; weren't they 4th when he was fired and then they finished 5th?
Fulham - think he got them to 9th and left after 1 season as realistically that's about as high as they will ever finish
QPR - kept them up in first season; then admittedly spent a lot of cash of players past their sell-by date

I think he's far from useless

The man is a tosspot. He has had crazy amounts of cash at two clubs, but the *vast* majority of the players he signs all share the same agent. And don't get me started on his tactics! He almost ruined Kolo Toure and Lescott. He drew 7 games in a row for us before he left, I don't think we were 4th. He's just a trouble maker.

That being said, I hope he does become Stoke's manager. The two are made for each other.

I agree. Sacking Pullis for spending brick loads and playing boring football and appointing Hughes as his replacement is beyond parody.

I wonder how many will like under Hughes now? I mean he pretty much ripped QPR apart and signed ridiculous amount of players on high wages. N'Zonzi and Begovic both want to leave and probably will, that is there best keeper who won them many points last season and N'Zonzi who is probably there best footballing midfielder. It should be interesting, but I think we may all finally get our wish of Stoke going down next season!

Whelan said: "Roberto wants to move on.

"We will let him go but he's on a 12-month rolling contract so, if he moves, someone will have to buy him out of his final year.

"Everton rang me and I said they have permission to talk to him.

"He feels he's not the man to lead us back into the Premier League and I've got to accept what he feels.

"He loves Wigan and the fans but we have to move on now and we want applications for the job."

good luck to Martinez if he goes to Everton. A manager who preaches good pass and move football needs to be encouraged. Of course he has to sort out how he organises defences but as he is a young manager he has time to work on this side

Was my first choice when Harry got fired or whatever that acrimonious departure was.

I like Martinez and he will succeed at Everton. I now will have to like Everton.

Everton fans seem to be cold as ice at this potential appt.

I think Martinez is a decent manager but he comes across as 'to nice' which isnt really a fault in someone's locker I just dont see him being convincing at the hairdryer treatment......I belive its important to give effective rollickings in managment.....

I dunno when my team loses I want to see my manager a little angry and think he's given two cents to the players...... if I was a wigan fan after all those defeats I guess it would have driven me a little mad.....

either way great manager with the right assistant.... will be interesting if he takes everton post.......more so if he takes stoke position.

I really like Martinez as a guy - he comes across as decent and knowledgeable, and a great club representative, but I remain sceptical, despite the excellent Cup victory.

- They've finished 16th, 16th, 15th and 18th under his tenure (not necessarily in that order)...that's not great really, is it? That's taking into account the limited budget.

- They've consistently conceded huge amounts of goals over the course of every season.

- I'm far from convinced that they've played much good football. I think it's grossly exaggerated.

- His team once lost 8 league games in a row...that's truly abysmal.

- Took about 4 years to find one decent striker in Kone - we're talking Sammon (£600k), Di Santo (£2M), Scotland (£2M), Boselli (£6.5M), Nouha dingdongo (free). He may have been responsible for Kapo, too, at £3.5M - I can't remember.

I like the guy, but as an Everton fan, I'd be wary. It's pretty decent job, so I think there are better candidates.

I think he's over performed compared to the money available at Wigan. 15th-16th is pretty good when their turnover and wage budget is among the very smallest in the league. He has struggled to find good strikers, but he has brought through quite a few good players and I think he's done well in the transfer market overall.

Their defending has been really poor at times, but I'm not sure how much of that is down to him as a manager and how much of it is a result of the ability of the players available to him. Would be interesting to see how he would do at Everton, Moyes just about always managed to make them solid defensively. If the defensive problems at Wigan are caused by Martinez we should expect to see those problems follow him if he does end up going to Everton.

If I was an Everton fan I would be hoping for Martinez, not many better options out there and he's a manager that seems to have a lot of potential.
