Apologies for not checking all 82 pages of this thread to see if this has already been posted but Uwe Rosler is a name to be discussed. He's clearly a good MANAGER albeit in the lower levels. I think we missed a trick in 2012 with (the then still untried) Martinez, and although Rosler would probably be considered too much of a gamble for Levy he would tick the boxes of speaking English and having first hand experiences of English football and the PL.

I mentioned him in a thread over on the other football side... I think he will prove to be an excellent Manager in future (he is one now). Too soon though for a big big job. Needs to prove it in the top league like Martinez did.

Rösler would alienate a lot of our players, I followed him quite a bit in the Norwegian league...

As we're playing Fulham today...Felix Magath anyone?

  • Took Stuttgart from relegation strugglers into Bundesliga runners up and beat Man Utd on the way to qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages
  • Has managed a big club, and was successful too - he won the league and cup double with Bayern Munich twice in a row
  • Took over at Wolfsburg who had been relegation strugglers for the previous few years - instantly led them to a top 5 finish in his first season and won the league with them for the first time in their history in his second
  • In his first job outside of Germany, he's taken as many points from his 8 games with Fulham as Jol or Meulensteen did from their 13 in charge this season. They looked dead and buried when he took over, now they've got a good chance of staying up
  • Highly decorated as a player - winning the Bundesliga and the European Cup, as well being successful at international level, winning Euro 1980 and reaching the World Cup final twice.

Our players didn't exactly like Ramos' strict fitness regime though, but I guess it's an entirely new squad now apart from Dawson...

Haha you think the players are getting tetchy after a bit of stick from Sherwood wait until Magath gets hold of them. Far too early to judge his Fulham experience.

Was that not a while ago? I didnt even know he managed in the Norwegian league. Perhaps he has learnt lessons etc

What I've read from his time at Brentford has all been good, not that it was a big issue in Norway. His ****ty demeanour on camera seems to have improved as well, but with the quality of football in the Norwegian top flight, who wouldn't rather be anywhere else.

It will be interesting to see his progress in the next year or two. Think he will go to somewhere like Norwich, Swansea or Fulham in future

Interesting to hear this. Hoddle says he told Levy back in December that he would've taken the job for 6 months and had a review at the end of the season. Obviously Levy felt that Sherwood was ready for the hot seat because I can't imagine it being easy to decline that sort of offer.

Or Levy didn't want to have to trip over "healing crystals" in the physio room and suffer through homeopathic tea additives every tuesday morning to initiate the weekly colon clensing or whatever madness it was Hoddle believed in. ;)

I like him too. But the purpose of this post is to say: Felix Magath = PENFOLD Danger mouse!

Well Capello = Postman Pat, so maybe all managers have a secret likeness to cartoon characters...well those whose alter ego we're yet to expose

Debatable. Sherwood's doing about a par job on the pitch, Moyes has taken the runaway Champs to 7th ... plus he's on a six year contract

After Manure's defeat today you've got to worry whether that will be the straw that breaks he camels's back in terms of David Moist keeping his job:

- First time since 1969-70 that Everton have done the double over Manure (on DM's watch)
- Effectively turned Manure (the champions) into 7th best team, much like Everton mostly were under DM
- his replacement challenging for a top 4 place AND playing more expansive/exciting/effective football

If he had won the game today then perhaps he would have been able to play the 'i need time' card. I suspect he will be gone in the summer now and they will be competing directly with us for a new manager :(

Things that may work for Moyes
-------------------------------
1) He has a 6 year contract and cutting it short with five years to go could be costly. However how would it work if the sacked him and he got a new job within 6 months?? Does he then wave his right to the rest of his money?
2) Ferguson and Charlton. Much is made of the power that these two supposedly wield and the fact that Moyes was the man chosen by these two. If these two are still supporting him behind the scenes then its reasonable to believe that they have the ears of the directors. If Sir Alex told the board that he had left Moyes with a **** squad then maybe they would believe him.
3) Whilst sections of the media want him gone, there are still quite a few outlets that are supportive of him. A lot of them are piling the blame at the players feet. Their recent form over the last few weeks has been decent too and the games against Munich served as a relief for Moyes.
4) The players. Scholes was the heartbeat of their team and he's gone and the other big voice in that squad Giggs is verging on retirement. Carrick, Ferdinand, Evra and Vidic are all another year past their prime whilst RVP and Rooney have barely played together since the turn of the year. This squad has looked ripe for the taking in the last two years but the Fergie factor kept them going. Lets face it, after Fergie announced his retirment last year their form faltered. There was always going to be a major squad rebuild coming, it just so happens that Fergie left just before it was needed.
5) "Fergie didn't win a title for years...blah blah blah". This line isn't reeled out all that often these days but earlier on this season the fans acted as if Moyes was gonna be given all the time in the world. They had patience in abundance and the club acted as if they were a cut above the rest. Do the club now go back on that and kneejerk like all the others that they claim to be better than?
6) I actually think Fergie would rather manage than see someone like LVG take hold of the club and build his own legacy. Maybe I'm wrong but that side of things just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
7) No Europa League. Moyes could spin this to look like a positive, given how Liverpool have done this year.

On the other hand
-------------------
1) Most of the plastic manc's I know want him gone because they aren't winning the league anymore. Strangely enough the ones I do know think that he should have them playing with two pacy wingers in a 442, something which he tried with little success. They identify this as the Man UTD brand of football and don't like the tiki taka style which is a bit stupid given that their best two players of late (Mata and Kagawa) suit that system.
2) Man UTD will need to spend this summer regardless. Do they leave the spending in the hands of one of the worlds best managers or do they leave it with Moyes. Simply put do the board trust him to make the right signings or not. We could argue that they need more purchases than we do so next year will be a slow start anyway. A slow start with Moyes is likely gonna be fatal, but a slow start with someone else will be forgiven (only just mind).
3) No CL football. Commercially they can take the hit, but as a brand I think they can only afford to be out of the top competition for a couple of years. Once again it's a question of whether or not they trust him to deliver.

Im starting to get the impression that TS is staying. The way he's been talking lately its like he's got assurances he'll be in charge next season.
Very worried indeed

If we can't get a LVG or someone of that calibre I'd be inclined to stick with him and see what he can do with his own players on board. You can't say he hasn't done at least a decent job and in normal circumstances wouldn't be sacked after a few months in charge for getting us where we are....
