So..

Italian Gazetta Dello Sport made up lies (the original story came from about 3 year deal done) and everyone jumped on it.

LOL

Its clear also that bookies were laying of there book to take the 0.3 % margin.

Fully expect now AvB to go to 5-1

He certainly should not be odds on, unless this latest is all bull and someone that knows keeps the price under evens. Who seriously would be backing AvB on the back of him saying its all lies.

And as I write another nice blocker chunk on betfair at 1.56 :ross:

Seriously trying to get my head round someone wanting to back AvB of this latest news.

But his his main position is as a central midfielder. Would it not make sense to pick at least a 4 th central defender so you can play captain in his best position. Diarra is a player that maybe "can do a job" in defence but he is a much better central midfielder which is where he normally plays for both club and country. Kind of like Brazil playing Sandro in defence because he can do a job in stead of playing him in his best position

It's a risk, but surely a calculated one and not an elementary mistake.

I'm (fairly) sure Blanc has figured out how often teams end up using a 4th centre half when bringing 3 fully fit ones to a tournament, and has figured that having the chance to bring an attacking game changer like Ben Arfa or Menez had more value than that 4th centre half when considering that Diarra can play at the back if need be.

Not saying it's the right thing to do, just saying that I see one of the potential reasons for doing so and it seems like a fairly decent decision to make.

like ive said before, even if Levy fails to get AVB, Blanc, Martinez, Moyes, whoever esle has been linked, he has to get someone eventually and even if it means he goes all the way down a list to lets say Ian Holloway id be quite happy with that:D

so no panic over here

Well we only need three CBs in our matchday squad, two on the pitch and one on the bench so it's all good :) He was a CB himself, so doubt he would neglect that area.....

Dude picking the team for a match day is not the same as picking a squad for a tournament. A suspension and an injury then you are in trouble. Interestingly he was the only manager in the tournament that picked just 3 central defenders

no, the proper translation was that AVB had been OFFERED a 3 year deal

someone who knows for sure that AVB has got the job, and the "lies" reply is just to take the heat out of the situation until the club are ready to make an announcement.

Exactly, I'm not concerned about what he picks for tournaments because if he was Spurs manager he's only picking a matchday squad. Unless you mean you're worried about how many CBs he's going to name in our Europa League squad?

As for your point looking at the tournament itself, if he feels he's got adaquate cover then that's up to him. How many CBs do you usually use in the few games you play in a tournament? Let's be honest, in most cases your fourth choice CB isn't going to make an appearance and if you have a midfielder or two that could fill in at CB in an emergency then it's better to fill that spot where it could really make a difference....

But the British Media ran with the deal done story didn't they, they didn't run with offered.

Which catapulted the story to where we are now.

not just the Brit media, but the majority of the ITKs too, and all the tacos on twitter.....however there was one ITK, cant remember who, who pointed out that Gazzetta were reporting a 3 year deal as an offer, nothing at all about it being done

il see if i can find it anywhere

Good post. As long as we have a new manager (and his backroom staff) in place by the time the players report back to pre-season training it's no big deal.

As a side note I heard an interesting story yesterday from someone who is related to a current Premiership Manager through marriage (not the wife), and this manager is good mates with Redknapp. It's no secret that Levy and Redknapp haven't got on for years and Levy wanted Redknapp out ages ago. Redknapp has been a dead man walking ever since saving us from relegation and even in footballing circles people are very surprised what he managed to do with us. Most people didn't think he was capable, even his friends in the football community.

He said that Levy's offering of Redknapp a contract earlier this year was complete flimflam. It was no more than a token offer, and the reason it was offered was in an attempt to force the FA's hand to come in and make a bid to buy Harry out of his contract. I countered this saying why was Harry backed during the court case if the club wanted him out so badly, and the reply I got was that Levy knew if Harry got sent down he'd get zero compensation and that the club would rather he be found innocent. AVB was struggling at Chelsea at the time and the general feeling was that Chelsea may make a move to acquire Redknapp. Then Capello got fired and it threw everything up in the air.

The FA never approached Spurs about hiring Redknapp BUT he was a popular choice. The reason they never approached him, was because they didn't want to deal with Spurs over buying him out his contract. It simply wasn't cost efficient as they'd just spunked loads of money paying Capello off. They would then have to pay Spurs a load of money to take Redknapp AND then pay Redknapp a steep salary too.

Because Redknapp clearly wanted the England job, Chelsea never bothered approaching and made RDM their caretaker manager whilst they re-evaluated their options. Bit like Redknapp with us, RDM was never meant to be a long term option but winning the Champions League threw another spanner in the works for Spurs in more ways than the obvious.

After Hodgson was announced as England Manager, the assumption was that Redknapp would see the season out with Spurs and then we'd make money on him when Chelsea poached him in the Summer. We would have fired him the day after the final day of the season, but with the possibility of Chelsea compensation money Levy wanted to hold out and see who Chelsea appointed as their new Manager. When it became clear that RDM was going to be offered the job, it was clear we weren't going to get any compensation for him and decided to offer him mutual termination instead. Redknapp was tipped off by a sympathetic board member that this was going to happen and was advised to hire an agent to negiotiate a settlement fee.

As for our replacement Manager, not much known there. Everton were informally approached about Moyes earlier this year when Redknapp was first linked with the England job (prompting Everton to unofficially sound out other Managers also) but that's gone quiet and he looks like he is staying put. General feeling is that we'll try and get someone already out of contract so we don't have to pay any sort of compensation package.

Another friend of a friend story from MK which coincidently backs up his theories

I left betfair with it going 1.7 to back and now its back to someone wanting to back it at 1.5

Someone must know something. Strange! considering the news 'Its all lies'

Ok so if ENIC are selling Spurs.. According to some 'in the next 2 weeks' why would levy Sack Harry? Why would they not just leave it all to the next lot that come in??

well it could be that the new owners are hiring the new manager, and want to make a few big signings as part of the takeover.
no source. just saying.

Liverpool: Dalglish sacked 16 May, Rodgers appointed 1 June. 16 days
Swansea: Rodgers left 1 June, Laudrup appointed 15 June. 14 days
Aston Villa: McLeish sacked 14 May, Lambert appointed 2 June. 19 days
Norwich: Lambert left 2 June, Hughton appointed 7 June. 5 days
WBA: Hodgson left 14 May, Clarke appointed 8 June. 25 days
Chelsea: AVB sacked 4 March, Di Matteo appointed permanent manager 15 June. 1 month after season ended

Tottenham: Redknapp sacked 14 June. It's now been 9 days.

Indeed, lots of fans getting their nickers in a twist for no real reason.

The reasons being:

1) Most thought Levy would've already had something more or less done when he decided to get rid of Harry
2) It's nearing pre season

Indeed, lots of fans getting their nickers in a twist for no real reason.

Not really, the difference being they appointed/sacked managers a lot earlier than us. Every club on that list has a manager in place with pre season approaching. Some have begun making signings already.

Its ok to take a month to appoint a manager when you fire him in may, not really so when you do it half way through june.

Levy could really do with getting a move on - assuming that a manager hasn't already been lined up but not yet announced for whatever reason.

Because evens = 2.0, not 1.0, otherwise your stake x 1.0 would mean you win nothing. It needs to be one point above fractions as when you multiply your stake by the decimal odds you're left with your stake with the winnings, whereas fractional odds you're just left with the profit.

Exactly what I said.
