Next Season

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

Go Lallana, Lovren, Begovic, Ba and Remy

Decent names mentioned there. But before we go mad in the transfer market, we almost need another year to assess whether the players we actually have are actually any good

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

We have seven players whose best position is at number 10: Eriksen, Lamela, Siggy, Paulinho, Chadli, Holtby and Carroll.
We have possibly two players who can work in the engine room of the midfield: Bentaleb and Dembele.
We have two DMs: Capoue and Sandro.

For me, we need to look very hard at creating a decent midfield chemistry. Having so many players who aren't good enough to play more of a role in midfield is shocking and really I feel having someone in there with the experience to put his team mates in the right place is essential. So far as signings go I'd say we need a new left back, possibly 2-3 centrebacks (Kaboul can't be depended on, Verts is off and Daws scares me), GK to replace Lloris :( and possibly that midfield general I spoke of.

I'd hate to see that many signings but we are woefully understrength in some areas. Next season we aim for no higher than 6th with any higher being a bonus, 2015-2016 season we aim for as high as we can get.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

Within reason I think you'd have to give him carte blanche.
£150m outlay on new buys could easily be offset against player sales.
Plus we could take the debt hit as the fair play loss ruling takes 3 seasons into account. Feasibly we could get away with a spend up one season. Wether levy would sanction it is another matter.

FFP isn't really an issue as neither Levy nor Lewis are likely to dip into their personal savings to fund anything and we're not going start funding player purchases through loans. If a manager wants 200m worth of players the majority of that will have to come from sales.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

Preseason for the new manager is key, he needs to assess the squad. Tell him he's got £20mil plus player sales, and players will need to be sold in January to balance money spent on salaries, once they have been assessed.
Focus on 1 or 2 really good first team players, as we have more than enough squad filler.
I'd seriously question selling any of our new (poor) signings as it can take a season to acclimatise to the PL, and Lamela hasn't even had that. Unless someone offers what we paid for them maybe.
Due to players performing differently under different managers, I wouldn't be throwing out any player who has proved their worth before but has been playing **** under the last two managers, until the new one confirms they are in fact ****.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

We should spend whatever we need on a bloody game plan for next season. Preferably with a decent manager attached.

Then we should give the manager the type of players he wants for his system, within the budget that Levy sees fit (for multiple transfer windows), and let him have three years to work his magic with his squad and his system. No more deadline day deals. No more stockpiling of talented players that doesn't fit our system. Just patience, trust and a long term, on field strategy.

Apart from that, I couldn't give a rat's ass about who stays, who goes and who is bought, as long as the players we have, are trained and drilled on a game plan.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

GK - I think we should go for Begovic even if Lloris stays. Maybe even loan him back to the selling club as a sweetner if Lloris hangs around. Archer promoted to number 3

LB - Rose is not one. If Baldini can't find a LB better than Rose then fire him. FFS even Benny is better than Rose and he's been dialling it in all season. Fryers looks solid if unspectacular and would benefit from having a more senior pro to learn his trade off.

CB (x 2) - Unless Kaboul lasts the next six games without injury and plays well above his current displays he needs to be replaced. If Vertoghen wants to knuckle down and earn his corn then fine, otherwise flog him. I think we should show some loyalty to Dawson. He has his uses when we are being bombarded aerially and he can play less important cup matches. Chirches is fine.

RB - The two Kyles are fine IMO. Naughton had a stinker the other day but there are more pressing positions to fix.

Mid - Siggy, Lennon to go. Siggy just has no speed nor strength. A spectacular shot every now and then is not enough. Lennon is scared to play now so there's no point keeping him. Keep the rest and bring Holtby back.

Forwards - Ade and Soldado are fine. I think we need a third option here and it's not Kane (yet). I'd love Bony to arrive.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

Top 4 Players, or realistic potential as such
Walker
Vlad

Eriksen
Lamela
Bentaleb
Sandro
Dembele
Chadli

Soldado
Ade

Top 4 Players who either emotionally commit to Spurs or out the door. I'm not arsed about any of them. Sell, stay, whatever.
Lloris
Vertonghen
Paulinho

Acceptable Squad Members, but very clearly not Top 4 players. If any of these guys regularly appear as starters next season, then no Champions League, just like this season. I don't want to see any of these names in OMT line-ups or discussions, save as cover for injured 1st teamers.
Rose
Naughton
Capoue
Townsend
Siggy
Lennon
Holtby
Livermore
Kane

Done. Thanks lads, cheerio. Sell them all and put the £14 we get for them into the transfer kitty
Gomes
Brad
Kaboul
Dawson
BAE
Falque

I don't know enough about them to say...but all young lads so almost certainly retain for now
Archer
Fryers
Mason
Carroll

..........

Manager: LvG
Yes, I'm a mug and would honestly give Sherwood next season, but as a realist that is simply not going to happen now. So get van Gaal in and let the whole circus start again.
Back where he was/getting mentored: Sherwood
I think I've got a bit of Brokeback Mountain about Sherwood for some reason.
DoF: Baldini
Kinda nuts to get rid of him so soon, and besides all his signings still retain most of their value. Good negotiator it seems. And anyway, his position is 100% down to internal politics and little else.
Circus Master: Levy
Whatever. We're better than we were in the 70's, 90's and early 00's. He's done ok and better than most fans credit. Sucks big blue monkey balls at appointing coaches though.

.........

All in all, we certainly don't have 11 Top 4 quality players who can all fit in the same team. Maybe 6 or 7. So I don't see a way to the CL without the purchase of at least 4 names who'd fit into that top category. Considering this season, 4 would seem to be the upper limit for integration. Any more and we've seen what happens.

It's a hot fukking mess.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

People are too hasty in chucking Ade out the door, we won't find a forward as good as him.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

Owner: Baron Von Moneybags

Let's stop kidding ourselves. We'd love what City have. Some of that please. Let's do it the right way, just like City.

Seconded. Its long overdue, and the only way we are going to bridge the gap with the elite top few. And maybe win titles. That's what I want Levy and co. have had their chance, repeatedly, and have repeatedly got it wrong with the manager selection, leading to one disaster after another. They had their chance at the time to appoint the Rodgers and Martinez's of this world, and didn't. Again and again. Santini.... Ramos... Redknapp.... IMHO only Jol was a good move and that was by default.

Time to sell, and bring in new megabucks. NOT spend money we don't have. Before the (not so) Good Ship HMS Tottenham becomes the Marie Celeste. At best we are in an ever decreasing circles situation, and at worst a downward spiral. Major surgery is needed, and that starts at the top.

Van Gaal. If we play football like Holland at their best I'll go for that. But the change is needed at the top.

But we need a new stadium first.... I'm fed up of hearing that. We have been waiting nearly as long as Hadrian did for his wall, and its due to happen when, exactly?

Enough is enough. Time for BIG change.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

I dont think we need wholesale changs but I do beleive several players are eyeing moves away and that we made some mistakes last year in the players we signed and let go.

1. Fire Tim Sherwood.
2. hire either Louis Van Gaal or Frank De Boer. Personally I would prefer De Boer but i would be happy with either.

Sell:

1. Paulinhio (22m). He is not suited to the Premier league. If he shines at the World Cup then get some profit and sell him to Zenit or into Spain.
2. Lloris (20m). He makes noised about leaving. He is highly rated. Sell him onto PSG or Real Madrid for a profit.
3. Kaboul and Dawson (5m) are not good enough. Let them go or sell them on.
4. Soldado (15m). He is not going to make it in England, he has no pace and no power and he is not suited to a 4-3-3. Sell him back to Spain whilst we can still get some decent moolah for him.
5. Lennon (7m) he is starting to fade as a player. Let him go to Norwich or so.
6. Naughton (4m) he is a decent right back that some mid table teams would love to have.

Total: 73m

Buy:

1. Lallana (25m) to be our creative force. give him a freel role behind the front men or alongside Eriksen and Lamela.
2. Begovic or Stekelenberg (8m). Both very good keepers who will be used to the prem and Tottenham will be a step up.
3. Caulker (10). We never should have sold him and he will get better and better.
4. Bony, Lukaku or Benteke (25m). Strong pacey strikers used to the prem who can come straight in and work with our system.
5. Young talented back up keeper.

Total: 68m

Team:

----------------------Begovic--------------------------------------------------------------------young Keeper---------------------

Walker-----Caulker---------Vertonghen---------Rose------------------------Fredericks-----Chiriches------Fryers---------BAE

--------------Dembele----Sandro------------------------------------------------------------Benteleb----Capoue------------------

Would anyone actually pay £15m for Soldado? I hope so but I don't see it.

DOF - Baldini
Manager - van Gaal

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

Lloris, Verts and Soldado could go for big money and are replaceable. At GK, Bergovic/Butland/Darlow could be ok. Soton need to sell, but we wont get Shaw and LB's are hard to find, so BAE has a year left on contract with us and we could do worse than play him, with Rose/Fryers learning behind. Walker/Naughton at RB is ok(ish). Lovren or Caulker in at CB. Then two big signings...Lallana in mid, and one of Benteke/Bony/Lukaku/Remy/Rodriguez up front. Ade would be ok for one game a week. Then still need more depth up front for EL so McCormack, Deeney or Rhodes. LVG can fiddle with all the existing young mids, which with Livermore, Carrol and Holtby coming back, seems to be about 12, and hopefully LVG can hit on 5-6 of them.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

This has kinda been done in another thread but for posterity I will go again.

Manager: Martinez - It won't happen because he is fiercely loyal and would turn it down on priniciple if nothing else but he would be my choice. Ideal style and identity for the club, foreign yet so british given his time in England so best of both worlds, knows the league and its demands, well respected and liked and most of all, an excellent man manager. Players want to play for him and pay back his faith and loyalty to them.

Boardroom: Levy and Baldini have to come to frank and forthright agreements with whoever the new man is going forward. This is possibly the most critical period in Levy's tenure as the club seems totally rudderless and lacking direction in all areas. No news or proper announcements on progress (or lack of) on the stadium, An interim manager to all intents and purposes, No real structure that compliments the club both on and off the pitch or style. that has to change and the dialogue form the club has to improve over the summer if they want the fans full and total backing. Otherwise it will be another merry go round with the fan base divided and if that happens then Levy has to seek alternative investment or together with ENIC, look to sell to an appropriate party.

We have numerous players that are either squad fillers which is fine or need to go for reasons such as not being good enough or not looking as though they particularly want to play for the club.

On that basis, my Definite Outs would be: Rose, Naughton, Vertonghen, Lloris, Capoue, Falque

Possible Outs: Paulinho, Dawson, Holtby - I would be happy for Dawson to be a squad member and used in certain games but against mobile sides like Chelsea/Liverpool then he simply cannot play. Paulinho has been poor but I would give him another season although he would be first choice. Holtby again is someone who I like but I can't see him fitting in properly within the team and therefore if we got a good offer then I wuld be wlling to let him leave.

In's:

Asmir Begovic (GK) - I personally want a keeper that is commanding and less inclined to make sponaneous decisions like Lloris. Hugo is a good keeper but we can get very good money gfor him and by getting Begovic I dont see it as any real sort of trade down personally but others may disagree.

Ben Davies/Daley Blind (LB) - Either of these would be good signings and I think both have potential. Luke Shaw would be ideal but we couldn't afford him or attract him IMO so we have to be creative. Davies gives us another UK homegrown player too if we went down that road.

Ezequiel Garay + Steven Caulker (CB) - We need more steel back there at the back and with Vertonghen going we could do with two signings. Caulker could be purchased at a good fee given Cardiff's likely relegation and we could have a buy back fee for all we know. Garay I have liked for a while and his performances against us in the Europa League have confirmed to me what a good and commanding player he is.

Antoine Griezmann (LW/LM) - Pacy and direct, uses both feet and can stay wide which will give us the balance we have missed over the last season or so. Far too often the LB is isolated bacuse whoever has played wide left has just gone missing either searching for the ball or naturally drifting inside. That has hurt our shape and balance. Griezmann has 1 year left on his contract as well so maybe a good deal could be had.

Wilfried Bony + Michy Batshuayi (CF) Bony to me has been very impressive and would work well with either of our forwards or on his own. I think he would be attainable within a decent price bracket as well, certainly by comparison to other similar targets such as Lukaku and Benteke. Batshuayi is a younger forward with all the sorts of traits mentioned with Bony, Lukaku etc and has a release clause of £8m or 10m Euros. He has a big future and to my mind should be one of our must buys in the summer.

The majority of the signings I have suggested have either 1 or 2 years left on their current contracts and a good deal economically could be struck. I also think that with the possible exception of Garay, all other potential signings would be likely to view Tottenham as a step up in their career meaning the chances of making the signing are enhanced.

Returns: Assou Ekotto and Livermore back in to compete and add squad depth. I would also try to get players like Veljkovic, McEvoy, Pritchard, Coulthirst and Coulibaly game time with the first team especially if we are in the Europa League next season.

---------------------------------------------Begovic-----------------------------------------------------

It is another summer of numerous signings and going but I think the balance and character of the squad would be enhanced and give us a better chemistry, therefore giving us a better chance of success on the pitch.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

Why do people think we are going to get Griezmann lol? The guy is a top top talent.

Re: 2014/2015. If it was up to you

Bring back AVB, give him the maximum budget we can afford and let him do whatever the **** he likes with the club, total responsibility for all ins and outs.
