Next Manager?

Our players, budget and philosophy as a club (levy etc) would never work with a conte or a pep etc.

These world class managers need an elite winning environment filled with world class players.

If they are world class, then they don't need an equilibrium to maintain, or the very best of the very best. They can help create one where there was not one before.
The world class managers are the ones who can make & achieve more out of base materials than anyone else rather than starting a 100m race 15m ahead of anyone else and then being lauded as heroes for crossing the finish line first.

- Assuming we are giving the manager a budget, lets for laughs £150M
- People would prefer Poch over Conte? (seems to be the opinion here)

Just seems a way for everyone to bury their head in the sand.

Poch gets away from a real top level pressured job back to cosy North London
Levy gets to appease fans and therefore is untouchable for a period
Fans are sedated
Dier, Winks and Alli get back in the team.

Honestly right now I'd rather Conte came in kicking and shouting his way through the club to shake things up. Let Poch achieve what he needs to, learn to be ruthless and then come back.

Also would be a concern for me if Poch comes back and is given more control. His record in the transfer market for us and at Southampton isn't exactly the greatest.

The most important signing we can make at this juncture is a Director of Football.

Has it ever happened before that a manager has been sacked and returned so quickly? I think I've heard of some Italian clubs doing that, but mostly smaller clubs that are in chaos.

Don't know what to think about that. Would love it if it happens, but would leave a lot of questions open.

All the time on the continent, but also in the Prem on occasion - David Moyes, for example. :p

In fact, I think the interval between Moyes' two spells at Spam was almost exactly the same as the interval between Poch's two spells would be, *if* he did return.

David Moyes left West Ham in May 2018 and returned December 2019. Hasnt worked out too badly.....

Howard Kendall left City to return to Everton quite quickly. He even said he was coming back to his marriage after a little affair.

I'd welcome Poch again with open arms, obviously - but what made it not work last time out, and how are we better suited to deal with that situation now? Will getting Poch back let us keep Kane? Sure, it's a moral boost for our supporters, and Levy will regain some of what he has lost - but ultimately, how are we going to not do the same mistakes again?

I don't know. Managers gets sacked eventually either way. I think I want Poch back eventually, but we haven't changed that many players since he was sacked last time out - so I'm a bit skeptic, I have to admit. If he comes, I hope Levy is prepared to back him heavily in the market - but just how we're going to afford that - I don't know. If it's the same trope of selling before buying, then he'll probably get the sack again before the end of the season. :p

I agree. It feels like it’s about two years too early for Poch.

As per skysports we are not after conte anyway. Plus he wouldnt come to us to work in our environment with our players and our budget - there is no £150m net to spend.

Whether people like it or not we are negotiating with poch and he is coming home.

What do we want - a romance or a hand grenade?

Personally I'd give neither of them the money. I think Rangnack as DoF has co-ordinate that, and let the coaches get on with coaching.

this is hard..

Conte, well... we've tried before. At least twice we've tried to buy the success Chelsea has had, with managers clearly out of sync with the fibre and backbone of our club, and it has failed both times.
Though I do rate Conte very high, I do see many of the same issues popping up with him, as with Mourinho.
That 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 (or more exact, 3-1-4-2 or 3-4-1-2) will very soon become a 5-4-1 or a 5-3-2 when things are not 100%. We didn't like it with Mourinho, will we stand for it with Conte?

As long as we're winning, everything is glossed over and it is all fine. But the test will come, and we will turn on him.

And Pochettino? I'm just about to be convinced, nay, even exited, thinking about it.
My brain says no. My every ounce of logic says no. But who cares when the gut, the heart, even my pinky-toe says yes, yes, YES!

And I promise, This time, I'll knock anyone who start moaning about silverware flat on their arse! (although it would be a wise thing to just win a bricky something-cup, just to get that monkey off our back).

It's also how easy people hold conflicting thoughts in their head

- Levy has no ambition
- No we don't want Conte, we want the guy who didn't quite make it last time (please, I don't need 900 replies on what Poch's success was for us, I get it, really do)

this is hard..

You're telling me

Interesting that he's on to it now! Other main upside is that Poch would only come back if he has the means to rebuild the team

I think that it was always mainly about outgoings with Poch. He never particularly wanted to spend big but he did want a small squad and he was particular about who he wanted to sign.
