New TV and Soundbar

It’s tinkle simple. Give £35 to someone, then use up down left and right to move around the EPG. Then press ‘ok’ to select the channel!
Maybe things are more user friendly nowadays but last experience I had with IPTV was a Kodi box a few years ago which was a bit of a faff, so just haven’t bothered since tbh.

Can I ask a related question? Are projectors still a thing? Are they ever good quality or are they just a gimmick

I have one I use for all films and decent TV series.

If you're only after 1080p you can pick them up quite cheaply now as people are upgrading to 4k ones.

Just asked some questions on the Sky forum and "My magic remote just auto detects my Sky Box when I change to the HDMI input of the box, the … button gives additional sky functions that the standard buttons do not"
And "My LG TV & Magic remote needed zero setup out of the box"

Yeah, we have all fallen for that but it sounds promising.

ATM I'm tempted by https://www.cramptonandmoore.co.uk/...QornyQx_MDnWMTXlzAAXFzciniNdhoroosterQAvD_BwE

Everything HDMI'ed into the TV and an Optical into Yami Amp.

Just stumbled back in this thread and noticed you mention the LG Magic Remote...

FWIW my parents (in their 70s) are usually v bad at tech but love the LG remote. As long as you dont have shaky hands (as it works as a pointer) it's excellent. Also LG has Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, Now TV apps built in.

I would personally get that TV, and see if you really need the extra sound setup. If not then you save a few quid.

I feel smug every time I watch something in 4k or HDR via OLED - stuff like "Better Call Saul" looks ridiculous in how detailed it is.

Anyway, good luck!

Question
Does the Magic remote turn on a Yamaha Amp at the same time as the TV? They will NOT be connected by HDMI - just an optical cable from the TV.
Is the LG magic remote a universal remote type in other words?

I'd monitor deals over next couple of weeks as all the new models come out in April so there should be some price drops. https://www.hotukdeals.com/ is a good site for them. I'm probably going for a QLED, too many stories of OLED screenburn around and the warranties don't cover them.

I’ve put the whole project on ice for a while! Keep changing my mind as I have two room and two systems to change.
I’ll bare what you said said in mind!
What’s The picture quality of QLED compared to OLED?
My current ancient Panasonic 50” plasma has a great 720p picture going through my Lumagen graphics processor.

FWIW I’m still running a Panasonic plasma (ST60) in the living room too and prefer the look of OLED to QLED (never been a fan of LCD tellies, even though the quantum dot LED backlit ones have certainly come on leaps and bounds).

OLED has wider viewing angles and near perfect blacks for movie viewing whilst QLED has higher peak brightness if your room is sunny. Burn in seems to be less of a problem for OLED as each year passes but probably not so robust as plasma, let alone LCD.

thanks for that!
My Panasonic Plasma is just a screen no tuner or speakers just a panel. I’ve had it calibrated.
I want to change but not just for the sake of it!

From what I've read avoid the low end QLED's. Main difference seems to be that QLED's are brighter and less reflective whereas OLED has much better blacks and is reflective.

I have a west facing living room with big windows so trying to avoid any reflection, the higher end QLED's also have a connections box so there's one cable from the TV to a box (supposedly invisible but very thin white which doesn't show easily) and you plug everything into that box like sky, soundbar etc which is good for me as I didn't build a channel in the wall.

Main thing is I don't want to pay 1K for a tv that might get burn in if it's not covered by warranty.

Micro LED TV's are coming out shortly which will have much better blacks and be cheaper than OLEDs, be interesting to see how they perform to OLED's. They won't suffer from burn in either and should be cheaper.

That sounds very interesting - here is my old set up. The window is a problem on a bright day.

MicroLED does seem like the ideal upgrade for my plasma (television is located in corner of living room so LCD viewing angles pretty much rule QLED or MiniLED out) so hopefully prices plummet when production is scaled up, as read that Samsung’s MicroLED sets are expected to cost upwards of $20K

They will come down in price massively over the next couple of years.
