Nabil Bentaleb

Oh come on, I'm no fan of Sherwood the bloke or coach, but he is the one who introduced these lads to regular PL football when many others would not have. They had the grounding last season which has helped them greatly this season.

The hatred that scara has for him is scary... It's like he did something to his family

After seeing one rather nice (to begin with) thread shut down through scara's anti-Sherwood poison, perhaps we should not take anymore of his bait in this thread.

He's replaceable for sure but players like Mason, Kane and Bentaleb DO thank him for his nurturing whether we like him or not.

Agreed and I'm NO fan of Sherwood. They may well have broken through without him but Sherwood playing Bentaleb so much must have made Poch more comfortable about doing the same. The same to a lesser degree with other youngsters. He took out quite a lot of risk.

Trust me, he of the "mild learning difficulties" is the poison - I'm just part of the cure. Anyway - I'll leave the rest of the comments on him to the thread where we're all laughing at him in General.

We really missed his high tempo, direct passing in midfield today... Dembele and Stambouli both put in a decent shift but are somewhat lacking when it comes to vertical penetration...

Why Bentaleb, not Yaya Toure, is the Premier League's biggest loss to the Africa Cup of Nations - Goal.com
...Bentaleb has an outstanding record this season, with Spurs winning 64 per cent of their Premier League matches with the midfielder in the side compared to just 33% without him. Of all the Premier League stars going to the AFCON, only Toure, with joint-leaders City, has a better record.

...Bentaleb makes more recoveries per 90 minutes than any other player in the Spurs squad (7.32), his passing accuracy is the third best in the team (86.46%) while only Etienne Capoue - a very different style of player - has a greater number of average passes and touches.

The French-born midfielder gave a nod towards his leadership qualities in an interview after that New Year's Day victory over Chel53a when he revealed that he gave a pep talk to his team-mates before kick-off.

"Before the game I spoke to the guys and we said that we would leave everything on the pitch," Bentaleb said. "We were playing against the top team in the league and we know how good they are."

Don't know who the manager of Algeria is, but he's a c*nt for taking Nabil and leaving behind that ******* Guedioura, who helped turn the game today.

His inclusion against QPR led to my disapproval, at that time I didn't realise quite what a midfielder we had in our team. I thought that he'd be decent last season but I was too in support of Holtby, to notice what we had, and was disappointed that Holtby had been benched. Now though, I realise only too well what we're missing. Bentaleb is developing in to quite some player. His quick passes, interceptions and overall play have improved dramatically this season and I'm in two minds as to whether to support Bentaleb & Algeria, or to want the team to crash out early doors, just so that Bentaleb can return to us as quickly as possible.

I love Bentaleb but actually I thought we missed Mason more yesterday.

We missed 'em both yesterday. They both have bite, composure and play good, quick passes. I said in the OMT that I think Stambouli might come good and that he needs time to settle. I think not having either Mason or Bentaleb was what cost us against Palace (and the dodgy ref).

I do think we missed both certainly but I didn't think this was our biggest problem yesterday. Mason would probably have helped our cause more but actually our front four were pretty awful anyway. I thought their contribution was far worse than the middle pair who were not scintillating but solid. I think the comments that that we did't get the ball forward enough or quickly enough are a bit lazy. If can put yourself through the pain of re-watching the match you'd see that the AM's and Kane got a fair bit of early ball and were wasteful with it. The CM's are an easy target but Eriksen, Chadli and Townsend were the real offenders in my eyes. I thought Kane looked very leggy early on as well, probably unsurprisingly. It was an off day but we were probably due one.

Bentaleb played 90 minutes last night as Algeria came back from a goal down to beat South Africa 3-1, they currently sit top of group C.
