Nabil Bentaleb

If Juventus are happy to pay 73m euros for a 29 year old forward we should be able to take them to the cleaners over their Pogba replacement

Though I was reading that we were only get loan offers for him so maybe this is a leak to bring some bids in
73 million euros has bought them a player who has consistently been the top goalscorer in Italy. I think that signing also served the dual purpose of appeasing some of the backlash from their fans over selling Pogba.

Still an expensive deal for a player who will only decrease in value - my point I guess was that it shows they will pay over the odds for a player they have targeted, if they have targeted Bentaleb then we should be able to make that work in our favor

Well, Stones has just sold for £47½mill, making my toenail clippings worth a million or so.

Bentaleb's value probably somewhere between the two.

The difference being that there aren't many options out there at all for a proven 25+ goal a season striker, whereas there are many options out there for promising'ish, young, central midfield players.

Probably nearer to the value of your toenail clippings than Stones' transfer fee though unfortunately.

Everton had serious interest from Emirates Marketing Project, Man Utd and Chelsea for Stones, a player that they knocked back big bids for last Summer. Stones was effectively being sold at Christie's with the big money bidders all represented in the auction room. On the other hand we have pretty much put Bentaleb on ebay with no-reserve price.

Ah least Boateng had the excuse that we played him out of position
And have we regretted selling Boateng?!
Decent player, but plenty of similar players with better attitudes.
To make it in a top side with a crap attitude you have to be special or unique, not just good.

Wanyama will come on. But could have done with Bentaleb playing today. We need to sign a Bentaleb type player imo. Obviously someone better than him, ideally with some experience to cover Dembele. Either that or put faith in Winks, Mason or Carol who are all a touch light.

I rate Winks, but I believe he plays more in a Modric type position, whereas Dembele (and I believe Bentaleb potentially) are better further forwards. was pleased to see Winks selected ahead of Carroll today but agree that we could do with another senior player

Well confirmation has arrived via Poch in the press conference. Nabil's days are done with us. A great shame. I'd love to know exactly what went wrong there, as he had all the makings of an excellent midfielder. I thought he'd be our skipper one day, instead looks like he's skipping out of the club ASAP...ah well, can't get them all right. But again, I wonder what the story is? I'd say it's down to a lot more than talent...

It is a shame but I am again impressed with how Poch has managed to keep it all in house.

Agreed. Seems like as long as I can remember we've had players or their agents coming out and slagging off the manager/chairman. It's quite obvious that Poch has fallen out with a few players (Adebayor, Lennon, Kaboul and Capoue spring to mind), but we don't know the reasons behind any of it which is a good thing I guess.

I am really curious to know what happened. He'd been one of Poch's best players in his first season and was rightly rewarded with a new contract. But since that new contract he played terribly in a couple of games in August and then was hardly seen again, save for the odd substitute appearance in the cups.

I heard a rumour that it was something about going off to play for Algeria when he was injured, or returning late from international duty. Who knows...

Shame though. Clearly has a lot of talent. Absolutely bossed the games in the wins over Chelsea and Arsenal in Poch's first season. Could really have done with him in that kind of form when Mason and Carroll were struggling last season.

Hubris, I think the guy started to believe some of the hype. He was never that good. Could not make an accurate ten yard pass in his last few games.

Perhaps it is the failure to consolidate or push on from that form that was the 'tell' for Pochard to get rid.

Potential has a forward and a reverse gear...

Really disappointed he's leaving but I trust Poch. Would like to see him loaned out for a year first and think it would help his transfer value, plus have a small % chance of keeping him at Spurs

I think Poch has done enough to earn our trust in his judgement (for now anyway!) so, if he deems Bentaleb surplus then so be it.
